Discover in Mexico - Part II

I'm leaving for Mexico later this week and am going to give Discover a second chance in Mexico.

 

My thread from last year: Discovery in Mexico

 

This thread is to track the acceptance of Discover in Mexico, not whether or not rewards track properly. Last year, it was a total failure because Discover was not accepted pretty much anywhere I went. This is a trip to "real" Mexico, not a resort area like Cancun or Puerta Vallarta. I have no doubt that there is some acceptance in resort communities, but this is a test of whether or not it is accepted in "real" Mexico.

 

I will update this thread starting with my trip to the Discover Airport Lounge at DFW later this week.

According to their coverage map (click on North America), Discovery is accepted in Mexico. You should have no issues.

We'll see if it has changed since last year.

 

I'll be using my C$R at restaurants though, but will look for Discover signs and also ask if it is accepted.

Have a great trip, however in all my years of Mexico travels, I have never used credit cards, too much fraud and skimming among other things. Well except for the hotel/motel. I just exchange Dollars for Pesos on the black market at a better exchange rate and subsequently feel like a Mexican millionaire with all those bills bulging in my pockets, LOL!

 

Plus, many of the places I visit in Mexico don't accept any form of plastic and of course the Panga Captains and bait guys are ALL cash.....Good luck with Discover, it will be interesting to read about your experiences even thought I do not have and never have had a Discover card.

Apparently you have also been to "real" Mexico.

 

I was surprised last time that Amex was accepted many places that Discover was not.

Thank you. A lot of it will be home cooking, which is the best way to experience real Mexican food. I will definitely be eating and drinking in some good restaurants though.
