It's common knowledge that Discovery is practically useless outside of North America, and is not a good travel credit card anyway. We have been assuming though that it is accepted in all of North America, and we don't know this for sure. This thread is to help test the acceptance in Mexico.

Other Discovery travel threads:

My guess is that this map reflects reliable Discovery acceptance worldwide, but we will post a corrected map if necessary after this thread and the Canada thread are complete.

I will not be comparing rewards, benefits or anything else to other credit cards in my wallet this time. The only thing I am looking for is acceptance. We are going to be visiting some of my wife's family and will not be in touristy areas, so this should give a realistic idea of what acceptance is like. Departure is a week from today.

It's way too hot in Michigan right now so I won't be GPing any data for you that close to the Equator for sometime.

As posted in other threads Ontario and Quebec were spotty in the acceptance column, with Ontario being far easier but not by any means easy. So it does work somewhat in the apologetic lands up north.

Edit: safe travels, by the way :)

rural Mexico or urban? Tourist Mexico or real Mexico? I would not be surprised if Doscovery works okay in touristywalmart type resort locations but not so much in, say, Ocota, Jalisco, Mexico

All for science. ;)

And we will probably confirm that Discover is not reliable North or South of the border.

Is it really reliable HERE? It's not exactly universally accepted.

I'm leaving on this trip tomorrow night. :good:

I hope the DFW Centurion Lounge still lets me in if I'm carrying this thing with me.

You may not get past security.

0/1 so far. I went to a local pharmacy to buy some deodorant and it was not accepted. I used my C$R.

Can we draw the conclusion that people who use Disco as their primary card don't use deodorant, or would that be premature?

I think that's a fair statement.

Correlation/causation?

Guilt by association :D

lol

I would think, with that card actually in the wallet I would want to wear more deodorant.

Disco is the type of dirty you can't wash off. Kind of like cigarette smoke.

My son turned 3 yesterday and I took a bunch of people out for dinner last night to celebrate. They didn't accept Discover. For the record, there was a sign out front that said "we gladly accept American Express." Yes, the sign was in English.

Discover is 0/2
