I just heard from a friend that just tried to apply to NFCU thru email and after spending the $25 to join Navy League - San Diego, that San Diego is no longer eligible for membership. she send her app in last Friday via email and has been calling every other day. She was told by CSR today, they only accept via mail. She hung up and called back, the next CSR advised that anything that comes thru San Diego Council be DENIED. She was advised it took affect today, Just a few mins ago. She was also advised that since no decision had been made on her application by now it would be DENIED.

This is true my friend was just told this today. The CSR stated that the Credit Union Board is making Navy Federal review it's guidelines so as of this week Navy League Applications are no longer being accepted. He sent his application this weekend and it has not been processed and will not be processed she told him to apply the traditional way.

My guess would be that Navy Federal may have come under fire from all of the whiny babies who complained because they felt like it was wrong for NFCU to grant membership to those who couldn't get in traditionally.

I think credit are under some obligation not to be universally open... as bizarre as that is.

NFCU being the largest CU, I suspect they come under some scrutiny when the word gets out.

They will have to alter their adopted charter to exclude NL SD members, but that process may have been under way for a while behind the scenes.

Is this also your opinion in regards to USAA?

I don't really remember seeing as many NFCU members/qualified people complain about non qualified people gaining membership with USAA through nontraditional means like I have seen with NFCU. So I have no opinion on USAA. Why do you ask?

Try sending in actual application if you're not already a member. You will have to follow up several times. If eligibility via Navy League of SD is not possible, they will tell you when you follow up on your membership.

If you don't have patience and time, you may want to try other CUs or banks.

They are part of the NCUA.

They have a charter that determines who can join.

They can't just change their charter on a whim.

CSR's giving incorrect information is nothing new.

It's closed as of 130 today. Happy I was able to get in the traditional way, I guess I'll just count my Navy League membership as a donation.

I hope they let any of you who had joined through it earlier to stay in. That would suck

^ this

Don't be surprised if they start freezing/closing accounts for folks who got in via NLSD, though.

Is this probable? I was wondering if this would have any adverse affect on those that recently joined via NL. That would suck. $17,900 CC just started reporting this month to all 3

No effn way.

That's comforting, especially coming from K-man.

Which is good since they are my largest line and I just threw them some funds via BT.

I specifically undertook this in order to finance something in 7 weeks ... that would screw up my plans. However, I've been using my card for everything to PIF and get the bonus. I can't imagine they'd screw around with so many people's credit by closing the accounts of lucrative customers. It was probably just getting overwhelming.

Anything can happen, but that would be super problematic for who knows how many people. Should I withdraw on my CLOC just to be safe? :o

They may be closing the pathway in but I highly doubt that they will be shutting down current members that got in under the NLSD.

My daughter just closed on a NFCU mortgage loan last month.

It's sad ... NFCU was my first rebuilding step :( I'm sad others can't access it.

I can't imagine that they would start closing accounts of already approved members. I have a car loan, checking, CLOC (which is currently damn near maxed) and a CC. I sure hope there's no fine print anywhere that I missed. Following this topic for sure!!

I'm just thankful I didn't mess around and I got in.

Thanks again Konrad!!!
