These are the links to get the free reports from the CRAs due to declines/adverse action or what not:

Qualification is as follows:
QUOTE

. Within the last 60 days, you have received an adverse action notice based on information from your credit report, such as:

Denial of credit, or other unfavorable action affecting a credit application or account.
Denial of insurance, or other unfavorable action on an insurance application or policy.
Denial of employment, or other unfavorable action affecting current employment or an employment application.
Denial of, or other unfavorable action affecting, a government license or benefit.
Denial of, or other unfavorable action on, another transaction or account, such as an application for an apartment or utility service.

. You are experiencing one of the circumstances below.

You are unemployed and plan to seek employment within 60 days.
You receive public welfare assistance.
You have reason to believe your credit file is inaccurate due to fraud

The various CRAs tend to hide the free online access. For example, the Equifax tries to convince you to buy it or that it's only accessible through mail.

Here are the links:

http://annualcreditreport.transunion.com/t...ntSituation.jsp
(contrary to URL, this is NOT the free annual one)

http://www.experian.com/reportaccess/index.html
(Click 'Get my Report Now')

https://aa.econsumer.equifax.com/aad/landing.ehtml
(Equifax will constantly add on things and try and get you to buy something. Be sure to uncheck the things that require payment)

All of them require verification of some form, usually a series of questions, and I think TU requires you make an account if you don't already have one.

Enjoy, and use responsibly!

Welcome to CreditBoards! We hope that you find what you're looking for here.

Some helpful tips:
  • Your post may not get a reply right away. Don't be discouraged, this is a very busy board. If it falls off of the first page, feel free to reply to your post yourself, with the word *bump* in the text. This will *bump* your post back up to the top of the board.
  • If you haven't yet, take a peek at out Newbies Section. Everything that you need to know is in that forum, for the most part! It's a lot of reading, we know, but this credit stuff can have a steep learning curve. In no time, you'll be posting like the pros!
  • If you find that someone is discourteous to you, use the REPORT button at the bottom of every post - that will ensure that a moderator or admin looks at the post and decides if it is against the TOS.
  • Off -topic posts should go in the General Forum.
Again, welcome to the CreditBoards family!

I recently applied for a credit card and got denied. Am I entitled to a free report from all 3 CRAs, or just the one my credit union used to check my credit?

Just the one they used to pull at the credit union. But if you haven't used your annual credit reports yet, you can get those. you could post this question in the credit forum and get more responses.

Experian is requiring me to send a copy of my id in order to get my report. I replied to the online questions and their system seems to have identified me.....I'm now hesitant to send the copy of my id. Should I be leary?

Has your address or any other personal info changed recently? If so, you may have to wait about a month or so for the new info to be reported in the system. That's what has happened to me when I've changed addresses. They just want to make sure your information is current. Once your creditors update the new information (or you have an inquiry on your report for the new info), you should have no problem getting into the Experian report.

Or, you could speed up the process (possibly) by just doing what they ask and sending in your ID. I wouldn't do it, myself, though, unless you were still getting the error message after a month.

ASayre,

Thanks so much for the links! Also for your additional commentary, really helpful stuff.

I haven't tried ordering yet, but just for the principle of the matter I have been trying to access these pages from each site's home page as if I didn't know about the links. (I had been trying with varying levels of success before seeing this post.)

EQ: You can get to your credit rights by clicking on "Learn more..." under "Helpful Information" in the bottom right corner of the page. This tells of your FACTA rights, but also mentions state disclosures, where you can click "Learn More" again. This page gives a summary of your credit rights based on the FCRA. No other links are provided, just says to contact them by phone or mail if you are eligible.

Under Credit Report FAQs, it also states free credit reports are not available online (other than FACTA). I can find nothing that indicates otherwise. I have not thus far been able to navigate to the link provided here, it is extremely well-hidden. Nice find!

EX: As far as I could tell, the only way to get there is to click on 'Contact Us' and then choose the FAQ that talks about getting turned down for a loan. Here I find the link as listed above. This isn't really helpful for people who are looking for free reports based on other rights, so I never would have found it had I not known it existed!

TU: This was the easiest by far, and the only one I found on my own before I saw the above links. On the main page, click under More for Consumers on "FACT ACT and other free credit report disclosures." Then "Click here to learn more." The ease of this one was astounding in comparison to the others above, although it still requires a consumer to know what it is they are looking for.

Thanks for this.

Just a reminder to everyone, do not FORGET to save or print the report number. I just pulled mine, glanced over it quickly and copied and pasted the report number into a word document where I keep track of all of the credit stuff and I accidentally did NOT SAVE that sheet and had already copied and pasted again, which emptied my clipboard. So now I just used up one of my reports and I do not know the number or specifics. I guess I will end up paying for that one.

After seeing my scores I will have to buy a new pair of glasses for all the reading I have to do!!

these just remind me why I consider credit reports illegal, immoral, and disgusting. 2 out of the 3 want me to send picture id's and other bs to get the copy of the report, and experian asks stuff like "we see you opened a automotive loan in 1998. please choose who the loan was from or does not apply" how do I get a automotive loan when I was 13-14 years old? rolleyes.gif

apparently I am old enough to get a loan for a brand new ford, but not old enough to drive it. horray for stupidity!
