This is odd. Yesterday I did the pre-approval for HSBC and it said I was approved but did not give an amount so I accepted...then it asked for $49 to be paid through my bank account, I was desperate so I did it.

I thought they pulled my Equifax report because I have a score of 670 however they didn't! They pulled Experian which is the worst, score of 525.

Now I'm waiting in confusion...I'll let you guys know what happens.

I applied for the home depot store card online and it said 7-10 days. Is that going to be a denial? It said that further processing is required before a decision can be made.

Such approach generally smells bad.

Hey guys thanks for the input! I got two new tradelines out of it!

Question though...

The excitement sorta went away when today I logged in to TrueCredit and found I had four new inquires.

They are from HSBC and Cap One. Wassup with that?

Is it normal for the BOA prequalifier website to give you the limit that the card would start at?

Yes, though it is not guaranteed. it could be higher or lower.

Thanks.

It gave the same number on all cards that was tempting, instead of a range. I didn't want to pull the trigger if the number is just an estimate.

still trying to find the 'soft pull' capital one link.

I still can't find the thread.

I had clicked on the link in that thread and I finally remembered to look through my browsing history - here is the link from that thread for the Cap One selector

https://cardfinder.capitalone.com/CapOne/fi...3ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

This asks you to "rate" your credit and does NOT ask for an SSN - is this actually a soft pull or just a "lure" to make you ask for a hard pull? With no SSN and asking for credit standing, it sounds like it might not actually do a soft.

I used AMEX pre-approved site and it gave me 4 offers but I got declined when I applied for one of those offers. That was on April. I did not see any soft inq on my reports at all.

Seems like Cap One always pulls all 3 CRA's. I've read that here, and they did for my app. Worth it to me tho, it was my highest limit by far, and 1% cash back.

Just following up on this. I was approved for the HSBC card with a $300 limit lol Oh well, I'll take it and later ask for a CLI.

I also jumped the gun and applied for the Household credit card, stupid me!! I got another hard pull and then was declined for the Household card due to "MULTIPLE APPLICATIONS RECV'D. WE ARE PROCESSING THE MOST RECENTLY RECEIVED APP OR STATUS ON EXISTING ACCOUNT(S)" word of advice to all.... be calm, it days time so don't be like me an apply for a bunch of cards, wait until your credit improves!!

Thank you for sharing the CapitalOne thread. Also thanks to everyone else who shared the Amex, HSBC and BOA threads. Well the 'cool kids' credit cards like Amex and BOA, didn't show any love. I'm not interested in HSBC. I have a decent line of credit with them.

Took a chance on CapitalOne and they Pre-Approved me for serveral different cards. I chose one of those no hassle cards. And I did apply. Got approved for only $500.00, I think because I have an existing card with CapitalOne for only $500.00. Anyways trying to improve my credit score. The new credit card will not be used often. I will fill my gas tank up once with it and then immediately pay it off.

Ii would have thought that after being out of chapter seven bankruptcy nearly three years, that my credit would have improved alot since then. But it's been a tough road. Just recently did I get approved for a JFCU Signature Loan. Well, I'm not complaining.

Thanks Everybody.

Cap One seems to be all over the map like many. I'm 2.5 yrs out of Chapter 7, but with better FICOs than you, however, they gave me $5000 on a No Hassle Rewards card, I already have a Cap One card at $2000...

Wow Hairmetal, That's awesome they gave you such nice limits. It's been a rough road for me. My credit scores were severly low prior to filing bankruptcy. Can you tell me your secret to how you raised your FICO score?

I tried the Non-Orchard and got a secured. Bleh

Tried the AMEX - no offer.

Then tried the Orchard, got approved for a gold. No idea what the limit but only wanted a $29 processing fee.

So this will be my first credit card in 3 years. Been declined all other times. Guess my score is finally good enough at least for something.

Low utilization and plenty of new TL's - probably a few more than I really needed. Also a few new installment loans helped (student loans, car, mortgage)

Well Hairmetal. You followed proper instructions after filing your bankruptcy. From looking at your profile. I filed about a month before you did in 2005. And you have a great house, car loan, and credit cards with nice limits. After I filed I was told to pay bills on time and open one credit card. But no one told me about opening credit and not running the lines close to their limits. And that was my problem. I got one card with 3K and the offers kept coming until they put a crease in my improving FICO score. Oh well. I'm just in a pay off phase. Now I've learned my second lesson.

Well I didn't have THAT smooth of a ride! My utilization was high from summer '06 to February of this year - due to job changes and a few other things - but once I got a chunk of change and PIFed the cards I kept them under 10%. They're a bit higher now due to a vacation my wife charged on her card (I'm an AU on two of her cards as well as what I have on my own) but I think I can remedy that by having her add me as an AU to another card of hers (that dates back to 1998 and has a $14k limit with no balance) so I'm well on my way to 700, I hope.

What an excellent idea, this thread.

qvdavid, I got the same offer. Like you, I jumped at the chance. After a night's rest, I'm starting to regret it. $49/year is awfully high, and if you close the account down, your FICO will probably go down. I'm wondering if I should stick w/secured cards until I'm able to qualify for "real" cards with much lower fees.

I received my HSBC card yesterday w/ 300 limit... called the magic number and asked for a CLI and she put me on hold, came back and said "sorry, not at this time" so I said well I think I want to cancel because $300 is very low...she put me on hold again and said "I can increase $200 today so your new credit limit is $500"
