The CA link says this...

This program is available to California, Nevada, Oregon or Washington residents only.

It also says they'll make you a Marukai member for $10 AF charged to your card "for your convenience" at each anniversary.

If you are not a Marukai member, you will be automatically enrolled in the Marukai Membership program upon approval of your credit application. The Marukai Membership is a separate program from the Marukai Premium JCB Card. However, for your convenience, your renewal Marukai membership charge will be automatically charged to your Marukai JCB Card account at the anniversary date of your Marukai Premium JCB Card. Marukai Corporation currently provides the Marukai Premium JCB Card feature of regular-fee “regular” Marukai memberships charged at $10.00 annually.

I do shop Mitsuwa because they don't have a membership requirement, but not Marukai. Who takes JCB besides some Japanese businesses?

^^ You're welcome!

Jcb is taken almost everywhere. Amazon, starbucks, etc.

I had no idea! It turns out JCB is processed by the Discover network in the US, so it's accepted anywhere Discover is... all 13 places! (I kid...)

Also in 2006, JCB and Discover Financial Services LLC launched a major reciprocal acceptance agreement, with Discover network acceptance of JCB Cards in the United States starting in the fall 2007 and JCB network acceptance of Discover network cards in Japan starting in the spring 2009 for significantly greater payment convenience for cardmembers as well as adding value to both international brands. Currently the number of USA merchants accepting JCB surpasses 5.5 million. These alliances benefit not only the international brands and their cardmembers, but also merchants by giving them access to more customers and providing more efficient unified payment settlement for multiple brands.

I definitely learned something new today!

EDIT: $15 AF after year one, in addition to $10 Marukai fee.

Credit Card Annual Fee

NO ANNUAL FEE for the first year. $15.00 annually from the second year.

Oh...and thanks for pointingout theresidency issue. I'll call to see if I can qualify

Wow, keep us posted. That is hot.

The residency restrictions for the actual card are (slightly) less restrictive: This program is available to California, Nevada, Oregon or Washington residents only.

I've had the standard JCB card for years. I am going to call to see if I can convert it to the 3% card. If I can't, I'll apply for the 3% card once I confirm that NV residents can get the CA version of the Murakai card. (why is it I covet the HI version instead?)

$25/year for 3% cash back? I doubt many people would complain about that. Hell, the Venture card can be considered a decent card with a $59 annual fee (more) and that gets you 2% back (less) on travel expenses (more restrictive).

Did you guys see this:

*1. For every $100.00 in purchases at any Marukai store in a statement cycle period, you will earn three (3) JCB Cash Back Points, which is a $3.00 cash value.

*2. For every $100.00 in purchases at any merchant other than any Marukai store in a statement cycle period, you will earn one (1) JCB Cash Back Point, which is a $1.00 cash value.

Not all that great, unless you shop alot at the Marukai store.

You are looking at a different card. The premium card is 3 percent everywhere once you spend 3000

Can you keep the card if you move out of the geographic area?

I want one.. :/

a few years ago I asked and the answer was yes, but that was from a front line CSR so who know how accurate (or current) the policy is.

Yeah I agree. I was just adding "terms" as they were uncovered so everyone could be aware.

There are also the bonuses --

$15 when you spend $1000 in a year, or...

$50 when you spend $5000 in a year

If you spend $1000 you get $10 (1% cash) + $15 bonus = $25. That's truthfully a 2.5% bonus @ $1000 for the first year and covers the AFs after year 1.

This shows the way the cash "cack" (look at 3% LOL) would work at $5000, making it a net $160 (3.2% @ $5K).

marukaica_cashback.jpg

It's only 3% for annual amounts over $3K, rather than $3K activating 3% on the total amount spent. The bonus at $5000 pushes it to a little over 3% as a card (max 3.2% and diminishes very moderately as spending increases). Until you cross $5K, the best total return is 2.2%.

Must not app,

willpower fading.

I don't even know if I could reach $1000 in non category spending on the Discover network but this card is still intriguing.

Credit pulls seem all over the place on scores. Anyone care to update with their recent experience? Also, is it confirmed that can be used in us on any that work with discover

I think a bit of a "gotcha" with these JCB cards is that you have to seem to hit full $100.00 increments to get the rewards. Since it's 1 point for $100.00 and each point has a $1.00 value, you have to hit a full $100.00 to get the points. $399.99 in spending will only get you 3 points.

Yeah. Ditto.

I don't like that they pull EX...but the thought of a 3% across the board card is VERY alluring...I just don't want an Ex pull for a $1500 limit or some BS...

There's a nominal annual fee on the card. Make sure you'd use it enough to justify.
