cv91915 Posted August 12, 2015 Author Posted August 12, 2015 US Bank calls it a 'line swap', and it costs a hard inquiry (TU for me yesterday). Moved a 5k limit and closed the card - reflected this morning. I will update this when I'm back in front of a computer next week. Thanks for the contribution. Yup. I did it for my dad a few months ago and he got hit with a TU HP as well. Let me ask you guys since I've been out of the loop for a while.... I'm about to do a mini app spree for my mom, before I begin I want to combine her Citi cards. What's the best way to go about it? I spoke with a CSR a few months back and was told it can be done only during a new application? How does that work? Is that over the phone? I just want her to start cutting back on cc's. The less the merrier (with high limits) Everything I know is in the four links above. The last time I combined limits with Citi I went through the EO, but there was a whole lot more going on. Long story that ended well. Quote
lilyflower Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Cap1 is now combining limits: https://creditboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=545970 My eyes bleed when I read that much about Capital One. Is below a good summary? - Can be done online. Donor card must have $0 balance and no pending charges, and is automatically closed upon completion. + be in good standing+ linked to your online profile + 6 months Yes, and I'll add a data point 6 statements + a few days. Any card being closed must have a $0 balance. I combined four C1 cards into a legacy Orchard card from 2011 with a combined CL of $30.5K. Quote

The less the merrier (with high limits) Yesterday I called the Citi EO (Somehow ended up with number to President's Office). I am trying to take $5k limit from my HHonors and move it to Double Cash. The person I spoke to was asking "how did you get this number, it's the President's office?" lol. I just told her i got it "from the internet." She took my info for both cards, and said she will submit it to see if I am eligible to do this. She said it will probably be one or two business days before I will get an answer, and she will call me back. She gave me her name and her direct line to call back if I have any questions. No mention of a hard pull. I will update this post when I get an answer one way or the other. So yesterday I got a call back from Citi EO, and they said "the offer is available on your account" so they moved $4700 from my Citi HH to my Double Cash. I had to leave $300 on my HH, she said this was the minimum to leave on the account. She mentioned it "may" be a HP, and asked for permission. I gave permission, but so far, no HP's have appeared on my credit (checked yesterday after talking to her, and just now). She said she didn't know what bureau they might pull (she doesn't get that info "up there" where she is, lol). Quote

almostanonymous Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) Just an additional data point for Citi: It is possible to consolidate multiple credit lines onto a single line. I wanted to combine 2 other limits onto my TYP and, while I was initially told by front line CSR that it was not possible, once I asked for and was able to speak to an account specialist they put the request through and it was approved. I did have to leave minimum limits on the other two accounts. They also said they may do a hard pull but I do not have one. Edited August 20, 2015 by almostanonymous Quote

cv91915 Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 US Bank calls it a 'line swap', and it costs a hard inquiry (TU for me yesterday). Moved a 5k limit and closed the card - reflected this morning. Adding some data points while I go through this process: - If the resulting line on the recipient card is over $25,000, US Bank requires the first two pages of the prior year's 1040. Your tax return can be either mailed or faxed. If you take it in to a US Bank branch, they will fax it for you. I had a branch fax it for me, and when I called two business days later they confirmed receipt of the fax. - I asked them to complete the line swap since they had the fax, but the AF had been charged on the donor card (which I was closing), so the donor card had a balance of $75. They were willing to move all but $500 from the donor card to the recipient card, but I wanted to move the entire line. I was advised to call customer service for options, since they couldn't refund the AF on the card I was closing. - I called the customer service number on the back of my card. They issued an AF refund, which should post in two days, at which time I can call back the underwriting department to complete the line swap. I will keep updating this until the process is complete, and then link the final narrative to my running list. Quote

RussInGotham Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 So yesterday I combined my first two credit limits, although I left all cards open. I first called Chase. I had $6,000 on my Freedom, and $14,100 on my IHG. I now have $20,100 on the Freedom, and $500 on the IHG. I plan to use the IHG, once I'm done meeting spend on another card, to try to get Chase to auto-CLI this card. The conversation on the phone was very easy. The only questions were for ID verification, how much I wanted to move, and if I wanted to keep the donor card open. A few hours later I contacted BofA. I had a $16,700 Fidelity Amex, and an $11,000 BofA Travel Rewards. I now have a $2,700 Fidelity Amex, and a $25,000 BofA Travel Rewards. The phone conversation was similar to the one with Chase, except that they also wanted information for DTI. I haven't checked yet, but I expect a hard pull from BofA. Quote

cv91915 Posted September 4, 2015 Author Posted September 4, 2015 US Bank calls it a 'line swap', and it costs a hard inquiry (TU for me yesterday). Moved a 5k limit and closed the card - reflected this morning. Adding some data points while I go through this process: 8/24: If the resulting line on the recipient card is over $25,000, US Bank requires the first two pages of the prior year's 1040. Your tax return can be either mailed or faxed. If you take it in to a US Bank branch, they will fax it for you. I had a branch fax it for me, and when I called two business days later they confirmed receipt of the fax. 8/26: I asked them to complete the line swap since they had the fax, but the AF had been charged on the donor card (which I was closing), so the donor card had a balance of $75. They were willing to move all but $500 from the donor card to the recipient card, but I wanted to move the entire line. I was advised to call customer service for options, since they couldn't refund the AF on the card I was closing. 8/26: I called the customer service number on the back of my card. They issued an AF refund, which they said should post in two days, at which time I can call back the underwriting department to complete the line swap. 8/27: I checked first thing in the morning and the AF credit had already posted. The card now has a zero balance. I called the credit card underwriter number again and they were able to submit the request to move the entire limit from the card I'm closing over to the surviving card. The process will take 3-5 business days, and I will receive a letter in the mail when it's complete. Obviously I will also be able to check online in the interim. 8/28: Hard inquiry on TU. 8/30 and 8/31: I used the automated customer service line on the donor card. The original limit for the donor card was still on record. 9/1: I used the automated customer service line on the donor card. The original limit for the donor card was still on record, however I also called the number for the recipient card, and the combined limits of both cards is the credit limit of record. The donor card still looks the same online. 9/2 - 9/4: Calls to the automated customer service system yielded identical results as they did on 9/1. 9/4: I received an alert that the new limit on the recipient card was reported to Experian on 8/31.
