This is buried in the master thread for issuers who will combine limits:

Message navy yesterday about combining limits and got this message.

Navy Federal Response 11/16/2014 : Thank you for your message. At this time we are no longer moving credit limits in between existing credit card accounts. If you would like an increase on your existing Flagship account, we will need for you to submit for a credit limit increase for review by the Credit Card Lending Team.

I've seen a lot of posts with people trying this strategy, so I thought I would share trubliever82's info in a seperate thread.

1 CC is the safest strategy for building a high limit CC with NFCU.

I actually tried again via phone and was successful but forgot to update. I think it might be a who you talk to type of thing. I moved $20k a few days before with no problem via message. I think I may have got that message because I got my increase and tried again a few days later to again move the credit over via message.

Can you tell me what verbiage did you use on the secure message if you don't mind. I have a couple of times and had no luck.

Not completely true.

Got mine combined via a phone call in 10 minutes.

Like everything else credit related YMMV.

I'll gp this again once I close on my mortgage. I have a Flagship I'm not going to want to pay the AF on... it will make a nice $45k cashRewards card if they oblige.

Does Navy have one exposure limit for all your cards combined like Penfed? I know Flagship potential limit is 80k and the others are 50K. So can you get three cards at 80, 50, and 50, or is there an 80K max exposure for all your cards?

I heard $80k is maximum combined exposure.

You must be joint on one of the CCs.

The CLOC and personal loan do not count towards total exposure.

Joint or even AU.

I know USAA counts joint accounts against limit of both account owners. I wonder if Navy does, too.

You can only go past $80K with Navy if you have joint or AU accounts.

I'm the only member in my family...no joint account or AU. I figured the personal would count, good to know

I sent a SM this morning asking to move 15k from my nRewards card to my CashRewards card, for a new limit of 5k on nRewards and 40k on Cash Rewards. When I logged in a few minutes ago, the change had been made.

I'm glad I was able to get this done, since the only reason I have 2 cards with Navy is because I was originally told my secured card could never unsecure and that I'd need to app for an unsecured card if I wanted one. I did that, was approved for the CashRewards, and then Navy agreed to unsecure my nRewards anyway, leaving me with two cards. At some point I'll probably finish the consolidation down to just one card, but my nRewards is 5 years older than the CashRewards, so I'm just going to let it sit at 5k for a while.

Having two Navy cards isn't detrimental to your health. :)

Wait a few months and start going for luv on your nRewards. Every so often Navy has a free-money give-a-way (i.e. 0% & $0 fee BT offer) and you shouldn't use the BT card for normal spending when you take that offer.

No, it's not bad to have two Navy cards, per se, but since they've got an overall exposure limit of 50k (80k for Flagship) IIRC, then the opportunity to build a high limit card is diminshed when you have to share that limit between multiple cards. At this point, I'm really just interested in high limit cards/getting existing limits as high as possible.

I've read about Navy's BT offers. I never carry a balance so they don't interest me, but it seems like a great opportunity for those who do. Thanks for the suggestion!

No, the overall exposure limit is $80k across all cards. Per card maximums are reported as being $80k for Flagship and $50k for others.

I never need a BT for the sake of paying off a balance, but a BT to fund a 5% CD is pretty much a no-brainer. ;)
