I want to share the coolest apps. My top ten all are free

1 Google Voice - If you have a google number this is a must have, make and recieve calls from your google voice number if you have a favorites plan this is also a must.

2.Assistant Free - store all your accounts, keeps you up to date on when to pay, and all alerts...direct tv, credit cards, etc...

3. Prankdial- Oh my goodness this is hilarious only if you record it though.

4. Police light - self explanatory, can't be mistaken for anything serious.

5. Wheres my droid - if you don't know where you put your phone and its on vibrate, you can remotely turn the volume up so you can hear it

6. spades/solitaire - endless fun card games

7. latitude - (i dont have it yet) If some one steals your phone, or if you want to know where your friends are it will tell you the exact location.

8. Be Me Weights - Counts your WW Points. really cool

9. Metal detector (use to have it) Coolest part about this is its not avail for the iPhone at the time I had it ..lol but somehow this thing actually works.

10. Contact to sim - copies all your contacts to your sim card.

Instead of starting a new thread, I figured that I'd add to this one... loading stuff on DW's Hero in advance of getting my Android EVO.

Bar Code Scanner: scan barcodes and find prices.

YouVersion: Bible app.

Google Maps/Navigator: free voice navigation.

Classic Simon: DW loves the classic quadrant game.

Bump: port of iPhone app that allows for transfer of information by buping devices.

More to come.

I lurve my android! I'm getting ready to pass my Hero down to my daughter once my Evo gets here on Wednesday! One of my favorite apps is Ringdroid! So cool, you can create your own ringtones from the songs on your phone by clipping the portion of the song you want to use. Also I love Shazam...for those times you here a song but don't know what it's called or who it's by, you simply hold up your phone and it'll tell you! And PdaNet...tether your android without rooting! Pandora, of course, rocks! Where's my Droid is neat too!

Advanced Task Killer - If your Droid gets laggy, this will close all apps that look closed, but really aren't.

Bump - I've yet to use it, lol.

Trapster - gives you locations of speed traps

Barcode Scanner - is fun to play with

Facebook Touch - Better than the Droid version of FB

Google Earth

Epocrates - Prescription med databse

FX Camera - lets you add different filters, etc.

Google Sky Map - constellation thingy. As you move your phone, so does the sky in the app

IheartRadio - listen to your favorite radio stations

Mabilo Ringtones

Movies - check movie listings and ratings in your area

Ringdroid

Shazam

Solitaire Arena - $10 game that has over 20 versions of solitaire

Mahjong

Superpages Mobile

Tip Calculator

Visual Voicemail

Weatherbug

Zedge Ringtones

:offtopic:

ETA: Airhorn - Lets you sound an airhorn, and it's LOUD. Great for scaring the crap out of unsuspecting kids while their splayed on your couch watching TV.

I need that Air Horn app...

I am not sold on ATK. I am sure that will change if I experience any lag.

I also have to try FB Touch.

I forgot to mention Dolphin HD browser. Great browser.

Are all these apps free? Looks like Droid apps are growing and trying to catch up iPhone apps eventually.

The Google Sky Map is the coolest. thing. ever.

Tigz, did you ever get that Android Hero on Alltel?

Most are... I think the one game Fats mentioned isn't; I believe the others are.

Yep, more developers are flocking to Android. Apple is still where the money is, but the open environment seems to be attracting talent. At the last I/O event, they gave every participant an EVO for free (well, the participants did pay conference fees). Apple developer fees are 4 times as much as Android fees.

Android apps are sitting at just under 60,000 (I believe); iPhone has 200,000+. BB App World has 2,000 and WinMo less than 400.

Now, a lot of these apps are nonsense, IMHO.

Yes, I got it about a week and a half ago. I got me the HTC Hero, and I got DH the Blackberry Curve.

I'm still playing with both of them.

The BB is a lot more intuitive for an salamander to use. The Hero, takes a little more time getting used to. The only thing is that on the Hero, I can't find the Alltel Shop feature...so I can't download my contacts from my old phone. I might just have to take it back in to the guy at the alltel store so he can show me.

I just looked on the alltel website and I am sort of irritated....I paid a good bit on my phone - something like $150, and now they have it on the site for $79......that is what I get for rushing out and buying it the first day it was available :swoon:

You should be able to get a price adjustment. Alltel gives you 30 days, no?

I found the learning curve easy on the Curve too. Cool thing about Android is that it is feature-packed, so I find out something new every time I pick it up.

Can you access Alltel Shop from your Hero browser?

Mini, how do the live wallpapers do with your battery?

I have not noticed a difference.

I went into the screen where you can see what is using the battery and it says that only 2% is from the live wallpaper :(

No I can't. Although I am sure there is a way to do it.

I'm thinking about stopping by the Alltel store here tomorrow or Wednesday and ask them.

droid light (flash light)

Be careful! I was going to install that but a coworker said it'll kill the flash in your camera quickly. I don't know if that bulb can be replaced, so I didn't mess with it.

ohhh thanks for that info!! Good thing I hadn't actually needed to use it yet! :D

Here's one with Advanced Task Killer.

It DOES work very well. Just DONT leave it running in the background, because it drained by battery while I was at work. The camera panel was warm, as well as the battery panel.

The only thing I could figure was because ATK was in the top taskbar. I closed it, and my phone cooled down.

So...I'll still use it because it works well for me, to get rid of the lag I get every now and again, but I'll make sure I close it out as well.

I'm in love! I just got HTC Evo yesterday and it is simply breathtaking! Gave my daughter my Hero. I was browsing around on some android forums and someone mentioned an app called Bump. Wicked cool, I must say. If you and a friend both have android and install the Bump app you can share contacts, apps, pics etc. By simply holding you phone snuggly and bumping (like doing 'knuckles'), the info gets transferred.
