Authorities said Thursday that four boys ages 9 to 14 took turns raping an 8-year-old girl behind a shed for more than 10 minutes in what Phoenix police are calling one of the most horrific cases they've ever seen.

"The father told the caseworker and an officer in her presence that he didn't want her back. He said, 'Take her, I don't want her,' " police Sgt. Andy Hill said.

OMG, I feel terrible for that little girl  Their family, from the article, is just doing what they've been taught thru their cultural ties. Here's is yet another time I am sooooo greatful to be an American Citizen.

Very very sad.

Hill cited the family's background as the reason the family shunned the girl. All five children are refugees from the West African nation of Liberia.

In some parts of Africa, women often are blamed for being raped for enticing men or simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Girls who are raped are often shunned by their families.

I haven't clicked the link or read any replies. Where did they immigrate from?

I actually cried when I read that last night. And the really, really horrifically sad thing is that there are millions of little girls that grow up in circumstances where this is an entirely likely outcome for them if they were sexually assaulted.

There are days that I call my Dad and thank him profusely for leaving Pakistan when he did. This is the stuff that usually sets off those calls.

Read about this yesterday.

So very sad and will just add even more trauma for this little girl.

What ticks me off (I can get over the family thing due to where they're from...sorta... I'd really like to punch "dad" in the face, but he's no different than men from a LOT of other nations out there...and American men wonder why American women are so pissy. ) is you know these little dysfunctional SOBs will have their Juvie records closed so they can grow up to be Grown man rapists. Yay! :D

I hope and pray someone will take this little girl in, and raise her to see her own self worth and value. Poor little thing. :D

:yes2: My heart just breaks for that little girl. She was victimized (IMHO), not only by the boys but by her own father/family as well. B)

I am going to take a break for a minute. Anything I say at this point may get the internet shut down.

Heard about this on the way into work this morning. I can't even begin to find the words...

Tears speak where words can't.

Well, the daddy don't have to worry about the daughter shaming the family name.......

He had done more to shame the family than that precious little girl ever could.

I haven't read the link posted, but I have been hearing about this everyday on the news...I live in the Phoenix area. Having been in a similar situation when I was near that age (only one boy involved though), my heart completely broke when I heard of what this poor child had been through. But then to top it all off, her family treating her like trash and like it was her fault?!? UNFATHOMABLE. I was yelling at the tv, screaming and crying. HOW could a 'family' be so horrible to a CHILD? Her older sister was on the news saying that her sister was always a 'trouble maker' and she should have never gone outside to play, that it was her own fault this happened. The childs 'mother' completely DENIED the entire incident even happened and said that no one ever touched her daughter. The father had said supposedly said that the doctor had examined his daughter and that there was no evidence of anything happening...oh really?!?! I cannot understand how any family could blame and turn their backs on an innocent child, I don't care WHAT your background is. This whole thing is infuriating. That poor little girl cannot grow up thinking this is her fault. There are no words. It's simply dispicable.

I just saw the mom saying, "She doesn't listen". And the older sister was being really harsh. <_< She was saying, "Maybe she will learn not to follow boys" and "She has brought confusion on our family".

An expert in African culture on HLN is saying that girls are often blamed for rape in their country.

They are also saying that there are several families that want to adopt her.

I hope the state is able to place her somewhere, having been victimized once, I'd fear she'd only end up being another victim of an "honor killing"

This sort of stuff happens in some communities in the UK (no witnesses comes forward and "accidents" happen).

I hope the rapists are in sheriff Joe's jurisdiction.

This story is soooooo sad-I hope that they let the little girl get adopted instead of going back to her screwed-up family...

One of the boys that attacked her was the little girl's cousin.

I'm not surprised...in many instances of 'honor' crimes, an older brother or cousin that is still young enough to not be tried as an adult is often selected to carry out the crime..
