Growing existing limits is a good strategy for building a solid credit card portfolio. New issuers tend to trust you with higher limits when you already have higher limits reporting from other issuers.

Over two years ago I started this thread to create a central repository of information about credit card issuers who (and do not) combine limits on multiple cards.

The only "top 10" issuer not represented is Discovery. I don't want to clutter up the main thread, so I'm starting this one to solicit input about your RECENT experiences trying to combine limits on two or more Discovery cards.

Anecdotes must be first person (I don't want to know what your sister-in-law's nail technician may have done with her two Discovery cards), and within the past 12 months.

I am also interested in our experiences with any other issuers not already documented. I will link credible posts from this thread to the main "combine limits" thread.

They would not combine for me, but eventually with CLI both cards grew to a CL that was more than both combined when I tried to combine. I had a More card that I just recently converted to IT, and also have an IT and also the Business Card. 3 total.

IIRC CTSoxFan combined limits with Discover. I know I remember reading at least 1 more story about them combining limits here.

I remember reading about someone getting the Miles card at the time of the 10% AP and they offered to shift credit from the Standard it card because they didn't want to offer additional credit

CV, shall I make a chart, where its in printable form for people to print out for reference?

I appreciate the offer but I think it'll be double overhead to keep the info up to date.

How recently was this?

Also, it's "it."

Has anyone successfully combined Fifth Third (5/3) Bank credit card limits? I was able to get 2 cards from them recently on a single pull. (same day)

I was able to combine my two Comerica (Elan) cards. I had a secured visa that unsecured and I combined that limit (1k) into my Comerica Amex (5k+1k=6k)

Thank you for the input. How recently did you do this? Did you just call the number on the back of your card?

For now I'm going with the answer that I just got from Discovery via chat.

I asked if I opened another Discovery card if I could combine the limits later if I decided I only needed(!) one.

From the chat agent:

Thank you. When you apply for another account we do not combine the credit lines when you want to close one of them in the future, they would be two separate accounts with two different lines.

I called the number on my card and the lady didn't help and didn't give me a straight answer. I called the UW at 800 6857680. They told me they had to send it to someone else. I got a call a few days later asking to pull my credit. I agreed. They pulled TU and was approved. This was around September last year.

Thank you. I'm going to update the master thread with this information. Much appreciated.

I had both the IT and the MORE card. I was able to get them to combine the limits, no hard pull. Combining those two got my MORE card limit up 46,500.00.

I did this just a few months ago.

I made a call regarding asking for a CLI, got transferred to somebody in Delaware.

Pretty painless.

Just an observation/question. I've never seen Discover referred to as "Discovery" anywhere but this place, and more than one does it. What's up with that?

Two months ago, Discover shifted my business CL to my personal account.

Thanks. I updated the master thread.

I didn't know that Discovery offered a business card.
