I've got a major situation that I'm not sure about... I'm gonna come clean here. In my eagerness to clean up baddies off my credit report, i was unable to get letters from the bureaus and a lot of stuff that I DV'd didn't come off. So I basically faked letters. I'd download the logo off of their website, put down their nbr and address and write what I wanted it to say, "i.e. was never late" blah blah. It worked for EQ and TU, but EX refused to accept any of it.

Now - I did this for DW and myself. It appears that because I sent in so many at once, TU got suspicious and called to verify it with the OC. Found that they didn't send the letters, so they blocked my file for 45 days, which is up on June 29th.

They've sent me a letter asking me if I sent it to them, (which i can deny) and if I didn't, then which credit repair company I used (which I didn't use - other than info from CB). They also said at the bottom of the letter ominously, "we regret to inform you that should you choose not to comply with our request, our only option is to report this situation to Law Enforcement."

What should I do? If they report this, can i get into real trouble? Right now, i'd settle for them just putting the baddies on and I'd drop everything. I've largely been able to clean up the stuff on equifax, so I'd be okay with that, and experian has taken some stuff off. Its something.

Thoughts - advice?

Multiple counts of mail fraud... yeah, you could be in serious trouble. Where in the world did you get the idea to do something like that?

I think you'd better talk to an attorney.

You my friend are in serious doo doo. Do not write anything else down and talk to a lawyer pronto. Yes this does constitute mail fraud. :)

Yes, you need to contact an attorney. Mail fraud is a federal offense.

I feel for you...but at this point, you need to protect yourself & your wife. Don't respond to TU's letter unless you've talked to an attorney and drafted a response together. Others are correct that this could constitute mail fraud and any letter (or phone call) you make could/will be used against you.

If you choose to ignore it, you run the risk of them making an example out of you which I wouldn't put past them.... Please talk to an attorney IMMEDIATELY.

I'm no law professional, but it seems that there are other fraud issues here as well instead of just mail fraud. What about these letters you forged, did you sign them with someone's signature? Isn't forging documents also a crime?

I was in shock when I was reading this.

What was so important that you had to get the TL off so quickly.

With having the knowledge here on credit boards it was no reason for this so many people have gotten as many as 20 tl deleted at once.

And as you know this credit repair does not take over night.

I really do feel bad for you. But you took this too far.

there are not words. Why in the world would you pull something like that? Sounds like a little trolling, maybe?

I wasnt going to log in yet until I read this. Whiskey....Tango......Foxtrot

What in the world were you thinking. You are in serious, serious trouble. Mail fraud is not even the beginning. I am hoping things will work out but it looks like you may be facing some serious charges that include jail time. While I understand its everyone's desire to have a clean credit file, this is by far the worst I have ever read. I wouldnt even consider doing something like that. :beee:

Alright - any recommendations on a lawyer who specializes in this?

I'm a Law Enforcement Officer (Detective to be exact.) I deal with a LOT of fraud cases, scams, etc in additional to the normal CSI-typs stuff. But you are correct. The OP is looking at Federal violations as well as State felonies. These are extremely serious violations and will most likely not be taken lightly by the local govt.

I'd probably call the attorney who worked for Michael Jackson and got him out of trouble.

I am hoping things will work ...

I may be in the minority, and it may just be because I deal with liars, cheats, and scammers all day... But I hope it doesn't work out. I hope the OP gets in serious trouble. It's the people that try to lie and cheat out the CRA's that make it harder for the honest people to actually get credit repair done the legal way. It's already hard enough as it is. We don't need to give them more excuses to try to lobby for a change in the process to make it even harder on us. But if they keep getting fake documents, eventually they will try to find a way to make it so that they cannot accept any documents unless sent by the OC / CA.

Maybe it won't happen that way, but either way I think this hurts every honest person who worked their flowers off to fix their credit the right way.
