I decided it was time to document all the quirks and workarounds I've developed for big and not so big "features" in Quicken, especially the 2013 version.

 

CC = Credit Card

DC = Direct Connect

EWC = Express Web Connect

H&B = Home & Business

OSU = One Step Update

SU = Schedule Updates

WC = Web Connect

You cannot Password protect your Quicken file if you want OSU to run automatically without starting Quicken.

 

Quicken can be persnickety about passwords:

Quicken is NOT designed for networks, Intuit explicitly does not support sharing problems:

If you do a WC, link to an existing account, but get an "Account does not exist" error, the Account name is probably too long.

 

If EWC gives you a "Password Change" error, the web site may be awaiting answers to security challenge questions.

 

Many EWC FIs will present Security Challenge questions during a OSU, so will fail if unattended (e.g. AllyBank, AmEx Bank, BofA, Barclays, CapOne Bank, FIA, FKFCU, HSBC, ING Direct (CapOne 360), Lexus, RBS, State Farm, U.S. Bank, Walmart, etc.)

 

Giving transactions a manual download date in Quicken 2013 no longer hides it in "Match Manually". To hide the transaction, make the Category a transfer to the account itself, like "Opening Balance"

 

Do not use the "Show Cash Balance in Checking Account" in Brokerage Accounts, if you did, and need to recover:

Andrews FCU = Downloads currently not available. When/If available, enable via User Services-Security Settings-Personal Finance Software Access

 

BofA/FIA credit card accounts MAY only download after statements close.

Citibank Web Connect = WC (ONLY use if no other alternative)

Citi Cards = DC (Use THIS one)

Alliant has a message that my Traditional and Roth IRAs cannot be downloaded via EWC, because that method is not supported by Investment Accounts

Alliant CU Quicken EWC hiccup this morning.

 

The last transaction in all my accounts downloaded again.

 

If this happens to you, and the transaction is already downloaded and matched,

 

just delete the duplicate transaction downloaded today.

I know Intuit does *NOT* support running quicken on a network. What I've done and I"M AWARE OF THE POTENTIAL SECURITY ISSUES for this is I store my Quicken data in a dropbox.com folder. I make sure I quick Quicken when I finish using it but it allows me to access my Quicken data from any computer I have no matter where I am.

FYI: Citi Credit Cards Migration

Delete links to Citi Bank Accounts

 

If you want to keep Quicken Direct Connect (DC),

and not be forced to use Express Web Connect (EWC),

delete all credit cards linked to a CitiBankOnline User ID.

 

That way, you'll be offered the option to keep Quicken Direct Connect with the Citicards download connection.

Otherwise, you'll be migrated to EWC, with no way back to DC.

Discover Bank has just gone to free Direct Connect for Savings accounts.

 

If you've been downloading to Quicken via Express Web Connect, de-activate & re-acivate.

Bob, I keep getting an update every other day it seems for the past two weeks. Is it just me? It seems to be the same update so maybe its not applying...

Probably some glitch, foe.

 

I'd download the R11 patch and update manually.

 

If you run Scheduled Updates, don't enter the password at startup.
