I'm freaking out and wanted your opinions before I call back.

I wrote Chase an email asking them to goodwill delete my negative tradeline. My credit card with them was very delinquent, and I ended up settling last year. I finally got the nerve to write a goodwill (my first ever!) and now I received a phone call back concerning my letter.

What do I say?? What do you think they will ask me???

Own up to your mistakes, tell them what happened.

Explain that you didn't walk away from your debt and that you are committed to becoming a customer in good standing again one day.

As Mike said, call them and explain what happened. Tell them you are trying to be responsible, etc. You have nothing to lose, as the worst thing they can say is no.

They called me when I wrote them an email for a 30 day late and couldn't have been nicer. A guy from the executive office gave me his name and contact info and said he would be helping me with this. He said he needed to do some research because he couldn't find the account right away. A few days later he called back and said he found it. Fast forward a couple weeks, the TL is deleted and I get a confirmation letter in the mail. Very very painless process.

Definitely call, but hopefully you have better luck than I did. I spoke to a nice lady who said she would do some research and get back to me. A few days later she called again and informed me that they would not make any changes as they believe they are reporting accurately. Good luck!

Oh, no, that's not very encouraging :(

I've had very mixed experiences with goodwill letters when it results in them calling me to discuss.

In my opinion if they are calling it means they are willing to consider it!! Because if there is no chance in them considering it why would they waste time calling?? They can send a form "No, everything is reporting correctly letter".

I do exactly what mike already said, I take responsibility for my actions, tell them what steps I've taken to correct my mistakes, how I am approaching things differently to avoid this in the future and explain to them how I'd like to become a customer in good standing with them once again.

Honestly Some days, you just get a CSR thats new, or refuses to deviate from black & white polices or in bad mood and its very difficult to connivence them if not impossible.

That being said I had a cell phone account with ATT that I wrote 10+ goodwill letters on, and spent HOURS on the phone with their presidents office CSR team. They WOULD not budge, time after time... I never gave up and after about 3 months I got what I wanted.

No reason to be nervous, as someone already said the worst they can so is "No, our reporting is correct". AND its their customer service reps, its not a CA or a JDB. They get paid to call people and discuss issues like this all the time, and I guarantee they've seen worse!

SHE DELETED IT!!!!!

She didn't even ask me questions, she just said she would be more than happy to delete the tradeline!!!!

My first goodwill was a success, I never thought it was possible!

I've been on this board for nearly 2 years, and never wrote a goodwill because I always thought, "they will never delete that!" And my first one was Chase!!

Now it's time to start writing more!!

Thanks for the positive vibes!! ... except for road2freedom.... j/k

Thank you :)

Now I'm just confused where I can get FICO scores so I can see how much of a difference this makes. Is there a service that lets you pull an unlimited number of FICO scores?
