Very limited time for 50K miles + 10K miles for the US Air card:

https://www.barclaycardus.com/apply/Landing.action?campaignId=1995&cellNumber=5

I don't see a deadline for this offer ...

does anyone know what "very limited time" actually means?

and anyone GP'd this yet as a second US Air card???

The limited time, at best, is until the end of this month.

There's a whole thread discussing this offer here:

OK, as I am more of a Marriott guy, maybe someone with more Hilton experience can tell me which is better, the 80K offer above, or this one:

https://www262.americanexpress.com/dapply/web/applycard/us/personal-card/api/hil/hilton-hhonors-card/hhc-033?wt.mc_id=CMEM_BUQSDkB886nwoM

The 80K offer is for the Surpass, which automatically makes you Gold.

The 60K deal is for the standard Hilton Honors, which automatically makes you Silver.

How much does this matter?

For example, as a Marriott Gold member, I get free room upgrades, free premium internet, a 25% bonus on points earned, late checkout, the list goes on. I would never have enough paid stays at Hilton to go from Silver to Gold, so is there enough benefit to being Gold to make the annual fee worthwhile?

The 80K card has a $75 annual fee from the start. The 60K card has no annual fee.

The extra 20K points would cover the $75 fee the first year, but unless I could get it waived after that, I would move the limit to one of my other Amex cards and kill it after one year, unless as asked, there are enough Gold rewards to make it worthwhile?

The 60K card has an application deadline of 12/31, and some people have questioned whether an app near midnight on New Years Eve might qualify for the bonus AND result in a January open date, I would think not as my most recent Amex app was at 10PM or so ET on a Sunday night, and it showed that app date as open date. Could still two-fer though, with the Hilton having a 2014 D* to 2013 and a charge the next morning having 2015 D* to 2013.

The 80K card has an application deadline of 2/28, so an app could wait until January for a two-fer to ensure maximum D*.

Thoughts?

I see your dilemma. I know CV has this card and he travels quite extensively I am sure he can give you some insight on this one. I would like to know as well as this card is on my app hit list.

For me, it is a tough call. My member date is only 2013. So if I wait until January, I get a whole extra year of D* and 20,000 extra points (basically one extra free night) by going Surpass and paying $75. But I would not continue to pay a $75 fee each year for a card to be a backup hotel card to my Marriott.

The extra 20,000 points on the signup bonus are worth slightly more than the AF on the Surpass.

The practical difference between Gold and Silver is free wifi, period. Yes, there are other benefits, including an extra 10% bonus on earned points from stays with Gold... but unless you stay a sh1tload at Hilton, the status difference is unlikely to matter much in and of itself.

I've never received a room upgrade just because I was a middle-tier elite member in any hotel chain's loyalty program. PERIOD.

Benefits comparison: http://hhonors3.hilton.com/en/explore/benefits/index.html

You can always downgrade the Surpass to the no-AF Hilton card... or move the limit to a different card and close the Surpass, which is what I'm doing next week.

Johnny on the spot! Well that helps me with my game plan going forward with this card. Thanks CV!

Not sure where to put this but it helps to meet spend for the sign up bonuses. At Staples if you buy 250 of VS GC's you get a 20 VS GC. One rebate per household.

Your Alaska Airlines credit card account and your new personal checking account must be open and in good standing up to and including the date the Bonus Miles are distributed in order to receive the bonus.
