ronsetoe Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 I'll add my Barclays experience. I had an existing card with a $4500 CL, was approved for a second card with a $2500 CL and moved $3500 from my existing card to the new card for a $6000 CL. I left $1000 on the old card. The rep had asked me if I wanted to keep the old card open amd whether or not I wanted to move some or all of the CL to the new card. I asked if I could move the CL from the old card in the future if I decided to close it and was told yes. I will update in the middle of next year when I plan on closing it. To summarize: Old card had $4500 CL New card approved for $2500 CL Old card now has $1000 CL New card now has $6000 CL Did the same with my 2 Barclay Rewards MCs. No HP as I recall. So you had 2 rewards MC's? Did you apply for both? reason I am asking is I applied a month or so ago for the NFL used it for season tickets, paid it off, and will get the sign up bonus. After I get all of my rewards I would like to transfer the CL over to my rewards card. From what I have read is that Barclays seems more apt to move limits for new products. I was thinking for apping for another rewards card then combining them all. Will Barclays let you app for a card you already have ie...have two og the same card? Quote

I already had a Barclay MC when I received a pre-approval in the mail for the same card about a year later. I decided to accept the offer just to see if they would really give me another one. They did. About 6 months later, I asked them to combine the limits and I closed the second card. It gave me a credit line of 4650, which was my largest at the time. So it's possible to have two and consolidate the limits to one. I'm thinking of getting a Sallie Mae and closing my Arrival at the end of the year and combining the limits again. Quote

cv91915 Posted July 29, 2014 Author Posted July 29, 2014 I recently moved the limit from Barclays Rewards MC to one of my US Airways cards, and then closed the RMC. As soon as I did this the limit on the RMC on Barclays site showed a limit of $500, but the US Airways card showed the entire combined limit for both cards. Now that the TL is showing closed on my credit reports, the closed TL shows a limit of $500, rather than the $7,500 that was correctly reporting as the limit prior to the account being closed. We talk about the harm - real or imagined - of closing TLs... I offer this as a point of interest for you to evaluate in that context. Quote

I imagine that a closed $500 CL looks slightly better than an open $500 CL. Once you get a bunch of high limit cards, it's more about the highest limits than the low end cards anyway. I still like the idea of building CLs by combining limits and closing certain cards. Quote
shifter Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 I still have a couple low limit store cards because they're old but they won't give a CLI. Has never caused a problem. The UW only looks at the highest lines. Quote
nbipbm Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 (edited) I have three instances of Citi shifting credit limits. 1.June 2013 - Got a credit limit increase on two new cards after six months from getting them and decided I wanted to swap the limits. Contacted customer service and they sent off the request, but the credit department declined because they were seeing it as an increase. I contacted the executive office and she sent it off and the next day it was done. They said a bureau would be pulled, but since they just pulled two or three days before, they didn't pull again. 2. March 2014 - Wanted to get rid of one card and increase the other so contacted customer service. They transferred to the manager and she filled out the request and said that a pull would be done to determine if they could approve. She rang me back the next day and said they couldn't process it and I would get a letter. I got a letter saying they needed Experian unfrozen, so I just left it alone. 3 July 2014 - Got an increase on a Forward and then later decided it would look better if the Forward that was older had a higher limit, instead of the card i got in October 2013. I rang customer service and the first person said no they don't do that, so I said thank you and that was that. I tried the next day and was transferred to a manager again and she took the request, saying a bureau may be pulled to do it. She rang the next day telling me the request had been fully approved to what I had asked them to do. Again, since I just got an increase the day before, they didn't pull another bureau. Their process is obviously more complicated than any one else's it seems, but it can be done. Edited August 7, 2014 by nbipbm Quote

nbipbm Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Can we add US Bank...also, does anyone know if they will reallocate a card holder's CL to a new app (denied) like CIti? Yes. I was declined a personal card and for having too much credit and closed a business card to open the personal card. They also let you combine limits from any card to another card. It's not instant like Chase or others, but it will be done by the next day. Quote

MommaE Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 I'm going to give Cap One EO a call tomorrow and see if I can get my limits combined. I have 4 of their cards. I'll report back here with my results. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk Quote

virtualtreasure Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 (edited) They reportedly haven't combined for the past few years, Worth checking if the EO will initiate it. Not interested in any additional product with Cap1, one was enough for me. Edited August 24, 2014 by virtualtreasure Quote
Cappy Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Do you think if enough people call in tomorrow and ask about combining the limits that C1 might do something about it? Maybe like some type of petition Just a thought Quote

Cappy Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 No it wouldn't. No one will even notice. It always helps to give feedback and seeing something happen in the future. Speaking to the EO would at least get the info out to the correct department. Hopefully Quote
