check the creditpulls database :) welcome to CB!

Hi Hegemony,

I checked it, but it didn't say anything regarding years of credit or income? I don't want to get a hit on my credit if I won't be getting it, you know?

I was accepted for the Amex Platinum immediately (no "well call you soon, let us look in to this") and I have a 727 on my EX... if that helps?

discussing specifics of bank underwriting on a public forum may not be the best place. generals are fine but i would suggest keeping specifics to private messages.

first, check pulls DB (as hedge tells many members with this type of question)

second, everyone has their own financial and life goals... and you need to decide if this product fits your goals and your financial plans (including the highest AF in the world).

third, this is one of the most challenging products to get, to some it gives them the spending power for their lifestyle and to some it is the pinnacle of their credit life, but its expensive and they have advanced resources for new and even existing customers to ensure the product is being used by 'qualified consumers'. which means you may get in the gate somehow, somewhere but after that they use resources and even simple things to create your profile internally. Every swipe you do, anywhere, has a special code attached to it.

The bottom line is credit cards are designed for several purposes, but generally they are designed to allow spending power for a consumer's specific lifestyle (and to profit from bank fees and more) but that's the general main concept of credit cards. Get a card that doesn't fit your spending patterns or lifestyle and you may find yourself with... issues.

Course, that's only my educated opinion. The more I learn and know, the more I realize I don't know anything (Socrates)

Just an update: I've had this card for about two months now and I am on the verge of just downgrading it to another chase product or closing it completely. I travel frequently and my amex platinum gets me into the Delta Sky Club, US Airways Club and the American Airlines Admiral Club without a problem. The Delta Sky Club (I frequently fly Delta wculd cost me $300 a year as a Platinum Medallion member). I also fly the AA and US periodically and as a non-elite the membership for either of those clubs is over $400 a year.

I am trying to get better perks added to that card to make it more appealing but so far it hasn't been successful. To those current cardmembers on the forum, I am trying to get us mid level elite status with one of the major airlines. The airline is interested but JP Morgan isn't. Go figure. The Amex Black Card gives elite status out so I don't understand the big deal.

So it goes.

Can you elaborate any further (e.g. who are you dealing with, any other potential benefit additions, is this airline currently partnered with Chase, etc.)? I'd love to get this card with the hope of improved benefits, but I cannot even come close to justifying the annual fee with the benefits the card currently offers. Mid-tier status with one of many airlines would have me signing up today...Hotel benefits with some of Chase's current partners would also make the card far more worthwhile.

I really don't want to publish anything further on this. It doesn't look like JP Morgan is going to do anything to. They claim that all of their Palladium card holders are satisfied with the current program and rarely have had any cancellations. They did offer me a full refund of the annual fee upon my cancellation of the card or product change.

You dont tell Chase anything, they operate how they want to. Thats just how they are with almost everything. So dont take it personally.

'Your only the customer' (which you would think would have some merit)

Well they did send me an email asking for my opinion on the card service and what I thought would make the card more appealing to the business traveler. It seems that suggestions are welcome but are filed away in the old circular filing cabinet. Heh

Just received this email about a product change:

I regret to inform you that we are not able to downgrade the Palladium card to a Sapphire Preferred or JP Morgan Select card. If you would like to close the account, I can refund the annual fee. Please advise me of what you would like to do.

Thank you,

as for the downgrade to select, its AF is very reasonable, the Palladium program AF is crazy high but the benefits are not aligned well at this time.

they can downgrade you to Select but that depends on your history with the Palladium program, how long you have been a customer, how many other accounts you have with the bank, payment history and stuff... bottom line is if your internal profile is good they will help you, if not, they wont and watch you walk away. they are.. interesting.

They offered me a considerable amount of Ultimate Reward points to stay and keep the account opened. I may stay..

Yes you are right that the benefits do not fit the annual fee. The card is really just for show (and seems to get scratched up quite quickly if not in it's own sleeve in your wallet). I find the amex platinum to be a much better fit for me.

here is something odd... I asked Amex platinum and Pd concierge to get me front row tickets for a concert. Amex Platinum concierge failed in this endeavor but the Pd folks accomplished it. Platinum could only get me into the second row.

I say this is odd since it is assumed both use the same third party for this service. The dedicated JPM team must have more experienced folks.

So it goes.

the Priority Pass membership from Amex carries a hefty per use guest fee. You can get the same benefit for less with other travel cards such as penfed amex and ameriprise WEMC.

Elites get a lot of free upgrades and no bag fees but beyond that, here is an elite status story: sitting on an airplane before the door is closed but the plane is fully loaded. pilot comes on and says there is a mechanical problem and the plane cannot leave for at least 2 hours but that he wants everyone to remain on the plane in the event it takes less than 2 hours. 5 minutes later a gate agent comes on-board and asks for me by name asking me to switch flights to the one at the next gate so that I will make my tight connection to Europe. We got the last two first class seats (oddly the same row as the prior plane) and made our connection. I asked the agent why we were moved because surely other people had tight connections in jeopardy. She said it was because of our status as regular customers of the airline; they were going down a list of who they could move given the amount of space in rank or of status.

But I agree that Pd needs to add some benefits. But then, the concierge service for Pd has run circles (pun intended) around the service I've gotten from amex platinum. Right now, if I had to pick one of these cards I would keep Pd since I get better lounge benefits from other cards.

I ended up canceling my Palladium card because it wasn't making much sense to me. I agree that the concierge is better but I have little use for that service so just that alone isn't enough to keep the card. I mainly fly Delta (Platinum Medallion) so the Sky Club access is worth the Platinum amex fee alone. I also fly US Airways on some shorter routes and American here and there. Having access to all three airline clubs is worth the annual fee. I can easily justify the platinum amex annual fee as the card pretty much pays for itself. I can't say that about the Palladium.

the Pd card has a better Priority Pass product attached to it (no guest fees). But if you mostly travel alone, the amex guest fee is not an issue.

Is the Pd card a siggy? I like the idea of a NPSL CC.

I'm pretty sure I can charge 50k on my plat with at most a phone call but doubt I could get a 50k Pd card. It's the infrequent, but large, set of purchases that my ideal card would support. To me that's more valuable than perks though the lounge access is critical.

So has anyone used a siggy for way more than their CL in a given month?

I hate to sound ignorant but I have the Pd card, what can the concierge service do for me? I'd love to make use of the benefits. Thanks

Call them and ask! Seriously, they'll take the time to explain what they do, how they do it, and how you can benefit.

From my limited experience so far with Chase's concierge services so far, it's more a question of what CAN'T they do.

they aren't chase or jp morgan, they are la cuc and circles that actually perform the concierge work.

as far as what they do, they do things like reservations many places so they have connections, thats all, not magic or chase pull.

also, for one of the highest AFs in the world, concierge better be good but remember, they just find the tickets or table or seats for what you want.... you still pay the price at the end of the day and for their service, in-directly through the AF

Yea baby I was on Miami Beach this week and need reservations for Prime 112 on Ocean Drive. Direct call nothing available until midnight and they close at 1 so it would be tight since the never seat you for at least 30 min with reservations.

Palladium got me a table for 9 at 9:15, table was ready with a 10 minute wait (they have mostly tables for 2-4) So that is very good service since many reservations are weeks in advance and if you just show up you will have quite a long wait.

Now compare that to Amex Platinum, when I was in the Bahamas and staying at the Atlantis I called them to get me a spot on a sold out boat to Exuma and all they could do was provide me a number to try telling me there was nothing for a week. (ended up calling direct and begging and got on)

Card service for both is about par since I tried both when in Cabo 6 weeks ago and had my wallet stolen with my Palladium and Amex Platinum in it. Neither card could get me a card over nighted and both stated it would be 3 days but would tell the resort to advance cash to me. There are limits on what they can do.

As far as sold out concerts they always have seats (both cards) but expect to pay a higher premium if you have to have those seats. For me I have found that concerts always have hold back tickets and great seats at face value at the box office no matter how "sold out" it is!

My experience has been that the Palladium is a notch up on the Amex for what my needs have been so far. As far the as the airport Priority pass as Hedge has stated before they are good and bad so I carry all of them if I am not sure! Gotta love those airport lounges when you pay nothing for a party of 6 or more!
