I am looking to round out my credit portfolio and have a pretty diverse credit portfolio. I don't have a Barclay card at the moment and I have 4 TU hard inquiries. I thought it might be nice to add a Barclay card before a Synchrony card to finish off my applications for this year.

Which Barclay card is known to offer the highest starting limit? I have close to $150,000 in credit limits now with a $2 balance and my FICO scores are 749-755 for all 3.

Thanks.

Jimmy.

Try skimming the results in creditpulls.

I checked this but I don't think everyone reports there. Furthermore, there was one recently with a $30,000 approval but all of the other approvals was $10,000 or less so I am not believing the $30,000 Barclay approval at face value.

For example, with Capital One, it is a known fact that many people getting approvals for $15,000+ for the Venture and Venture One cards. However, I don't know what the Barclay version of that would be. The Credit Pulls Database seems conflicting in some cases.

Most people don't get approvals over $10-15K, although some do.

It's easy to build a good limit with Barclays though through combining limits.

They like to see heavy usage in most cases for CLIs, but not always.

Here's my Barclays experience:

6/13 Rewards MC approved for $1500

2/14 Rewards MC CLI to $4500 after moderate usage

6/14 Arrival+ approved for $3500

$3000 moved from Rewards MC to Arrival+

New limit for Rewards MC $1500

New limit for Arrival+ $6500

7/14 US Airways approved for $5000

8/14 US Airways CLI to $10,000 after $10 usage

Arrival+ CLI to $8550

9/14 M&M MC approved for $2500

Rewards MC CLI to $2050

12/14 Arrival+ closed and CL moved to M&M

US Airways closed and CL moved to M&M

Currently:

Rewards MC $2050

M&M MC $21,050

In June, I'm hitting CLI on both, closing the Rewards MC and moving the limit to M&M.

I might be off a month or so with the M&M, but that's how I went from $1500 last year to over $23K with Barclays.

Mendelssohn, thank you. What you've done is marvelous. It requires discipline and a plan. Nice job! Question: Did your Barclay CLI's have any hard pulls or were they soft?

I'm one of those people that got approved for a $15k venture. After two months I got a soft increase to $18k.

I haven't heard of anyone getting a really high starting limit with Barclays but the CLIs do come and with combining you can build high limits as mentioned.

Here's a link to Bob Wang's "card vs starting limit vs credit score" for Barclays. He harvested the data from the Credit Pulls Database and put it all on a chart.

Looks like there are two "families" of cards

-- low starting limits, like Arrival and Ring, which you only need 620 to get, but only get ~$2K starting limits.

-- high starting limits, like Arrival Plus, US Air, P, S, and B (not sure what those are). Which you need a 700 credit score, but the limits can be high.

For me, my first Barclays card was the Arrival Plus, $10K, after gardening for year, credit score around 700.

FWIW, last year about this time I applied for a Sallie Mae card and was approved for $10K. My TU at the time was 739, and the only credit card I had was a PayPal SC with a 1,500 limit.

After six months, they auto CLI'd me to $13K, (I had 30% UTI on the SM card reporting at the time).

they initiate = soft

they don't give them often... combining limits is the best way to a big line with Barclay

My contribution - a method for Barclay SP CLI I saw mentioned elsewhere. I tried it today, worked like a charm.

Saw that Barclay did a SP a couple of weeks ago...

- call backdoor UW

- ask for APR reduction. If you get transferred...

- ask if there are SP CLI offers on your account. If there is they will tell you (they call it a "soft pull credit limit increase.")

Apparently it is all about getting transferred to this bonus offer group. If the first person doesn't transfer, you'll come up empty.

I think the strategy of combining limits is the way to go for a Barclay limit > $10k, but this is a way to get a CLI without a HP, and earlier than normal. For me this is a 4 mo account, 4500 to start, 6500 as of today.

Nice. Thanks for the heads-up. They're getting a little shy lately.

This method was discovered on MF a few months back.. accidentally by someone actually calling to get an APR reduction who was unsuccessful and offered a SP CLI instead.. then shared there excitement on the forum, for which this method was beat to death in about 24 hours and 10 pages. Surprised it still works.

Well, if it runs the typical MF course, someone will get pissed off for not getting the CLI and they'll call the EO's office.

It was "another forum", but yeah, it works. Don't know if it ever stopped working, but it worked as advertised today.

That got me a CLI of $1K on my Rewards MC and an APR reduction just now.

Nothing on my M&M.

Thanks for the tip!
