When I log on... I like to start back t page 3 (or 5 depending how much time i have) and look for threads that need to be bumped or haven't had responses.

If the title of your thread is : Please help.

That is not descriptive nor does it draw in those that can help you.

Just think.... if you titled your thread : Please help with Repo

That is a better start, there are a few people around here who know quite a bit about repos.

If you titled your thread : Repo Question : Illegally seized with my child in it.

Just kidding, I'd hope you call the police first, but you get the idea on how specific that is and what you are looking for.

There are MANY advantages to a concise, descriptive title..... if you don't feel like you're getting the help you need... that is a good place to start!

I agree, a descriptive title helps alot. I also look for 0 post threads, and will avoid those I know nothing about and sometimes those that are vague. (Of course, it's rare I even venture out of the general forum, I spend most my time keeping those rowdies in line, and leading my crew).

Being funny/witty helps too, but at least be specific/clear as possible.

AMEN....

it's hard to know which threads to reply to...since each of us has only limited time, at least I tend to go for the threads that I know I can help with...

I agree. I typically skip those thread unless I see a lot of replies.

Newbie needs help with 0 replies = skipped :swoon: I'm definitely going to have to remember to be more specific.

good suggestion, OP.

i think some people keep the title vague on purpose so that folks will have to click on it to get more info, hoping to get people who would normally skip over it. but this often backfires.

The OP's suggestion is especially critical when posting on boards with a lot of traffic. And I've also noticed a trend where people like to post threads with titles that are only half a sentence, like "When I opened my mail...". That might work on a board with only a few threads every day, but I know I skip right past them on a busy forum.

For people posting threads who are looking for help, a clear and concise thread title will draw more replies. Just see what pryan67 said above. There are too many threads to read them all, so people look for the ones that they know they can contribute to.

This is a very good topic. Posters need to put the name of the creditor, CA, etc. that they are asking questions about in their title. This help folks who have info on those companies to zoom right in on those threads and offer their advice.
