Will Alliant pull a different CRA for a CC if EQ is on Ice?

even if they do, if they approve they will have PP to do ARs on EQ and what might happen if they see something they don't like?

You make a good point. I plan on gardening for a bit before applying to let some new accounts age. EQ is just my lowest score due to my oldest account only reporting TU and I was curious if it might make a difference.

Thanks for the input, hege.

This has been said multiple times on this thread... but they pull TU.

Based on what I saw in the database, they pull EQ, or am I mistaken and that's for membership?

It's usually EQ for membership, TU for this card. Not guaranteed.

Well decided to get this. I had the platinum rewards card with a measly $2000 limit since I first started rebuilding 5 years ago or so that I never use. Asked them to switch and they said the only issue was that it needed to be a $10K minimum so we'd have to apply for an increase, which I wanted to do anyway. Transferred me to another area and they pulled credit, looks like Transunion. I asked to approve me for the highest they could, but they only gave me $10K, I suspect because of income which is only 70K. I saw other places that they want 100K annual income as a minimum so I think that's the reason for the lower limit.

Looks like my M$ is going to ramp up big time... only did it for signup bonuses for the most part so far.

I just applied for membership and was approved for membership. The did a soft on Experian. Then I applied for the 3% card and I was turned down but they countered to give me the platinum card with a $5k limit. I guess they dont want me making rewards off them? I went ahead and accepted to get my foot in the door. If I max it out and PIF every month. How long would it take to PC or CLI? any thoughts. I had a 740 when the did a hard pull on Transunion.

I think at least a year for a PC due to the CARD act.

They didn't want to give you a $10K limit, so you don't qualify for the 3%/2.5% product.

yup. Once my limit is raised to 10k you think I can request a PC?

Yes. But there is no guarantee that the 3% for the first year promo will still be available.

Earlier I raised the issue that, depending on how Alliant interprets its terms and conditions, it is possible that they will not pay cash back on foreign purchases. I used the card on an international trip last week as an experiment. I have not yet received notification of how much cash back I will receive for this billing cycle (I'll report the result when I do), but I did get an interesting bit of information.

I charged multiple purchases on both my Alliant Visa Signature and my Chase United Club card on the same dates, for multiple dates. The conversion rate back to dollars was consistently better from Chase (which they are known for), by an average of half a percent. Because I did this for multiple charges and multiple dates, and I only compared Alliant charges with Chase charges on the same dates, it appears I can count on the Chase card averaging a half percent better conversion rate.

Yeah, Chase typically has the best exchange rates. That's something that many people overlook when considering which cards to use internationally.

Many Crap1 fans like to point out that their cards have no FTF, BUT they are towards the bottom end of no FTF cards in terms of exchange rate: https://thepointsguy.com/2015/02/avoid-a-nasty-surprise-on-international-trips/

Discover is also towards the bottom: https://creditboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=566396&p=5489948

Compared to Chase, Crap1 and Discover have a net 1% cost even though they have no FTF. Compared to Amex, they have a net .5% cost.

I was done applying for anything, but this one looks good. Approved for $15k contingent upon receipt of paystubs, W-2s, and tax returns. New to them, technically. I was a member years ago, but then they forgot I exist.

The results are in. They paid the full 3% for charges in a foreign currency, so the statement in the terms and conditions is meaningless boilerplate.

Given the half percent disadvantage in currency conversion rates, that means when choosing which card to use in foreign currency, it compares to Chase as 2.5% cash back the first year and 2% after that.

I went to join Alliant today and they said that my membership is pending and requires additional review. Has anyone else run into this? I know I answered the security questions correctly.
