cv91915 Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 Has anyone tried to combine limits on two Barclays cards recently? I currently have: Rewards MC @ $7,500 US Airways MC (#1) @ $15,000 US Airways MC (#2) @ $9,300 I will never use any of these cards enough for Barclays to give me a CLI, and I'm hellbent on closing out the Rewards MC because it's, well, useless. Ergo, I'm thinking of closing the Rewards MC and transferring the limit to US Airways #1, making US Airways #1 a $22,500 card. I just learned that my US Airways MC (#2) doesn't offer 10,000 anniversary bonus miles like US Airways MC (#1) does, so #2 is also running on borrowed time like the Rewards MC. I wonder if I'd have better odds attempting to do this all at once (consolidate all three limits, leaving $31,800 on US Airways MC #1), or if I'd have better luck combining the Rewards MC and #1 now, and then collapsing #2 onto the one other remaining card later. Wait... #2 isn't yet a year old. They probably won't do anything with that card until it's a year old, courtesy of the CARD Act. Just sign up to the new arrival+ Awesome card with the new benefits, move your credit line from the Barclays rewards with the new app after you get a decline or approval. when you say you want a cli on the arrival your applying for. 40,000 extra points for you. Maybe this time you come to ny, you actually will visit me Interesting suggestion, but the theme for the rest of 2014 is consolidation rather than acquisition. I know this is heresy, but I've reached the point where I want fewer cards, not more. 2015 will probably be Year of the Signup Bonus again. The odds of another vacation to NY are slim. We enjoyed our 11 days there, but our next several vacations of any significant duration will likely be international. We've both seen most of the U.S. If I were you, close down all 3 of your cards. Barclay rewards Us air #1 & 2 And move all your available credit to the new arrival. I'm just telling you what I would do in your case. Plus the arrival+ looks super hot In our house, the idea of an Arrival of any kind is, well, dead on itself. Quote

mendelssohn Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Did you read the new arrival+ plus benefits? It's worth it almost to use as a primary card for spending It is a huge understatement to say that CV is not a huge fan of the Arrival card. If I were in your situation, I would also want to consolidate all 3. You can open a Sallie Mae MC in the future as well and move the entire CL to have a high limit SM MC. Quote

That's probably the ultimate end game. I'm going to keep US Airways MC #1 for as long as I can still pick up 10,000 miles a year for only $89. This card will disappear at some point, though, and I don't want a sh!tty Arrival card! Edited May 15, 2014 by cv91915 Quote
TrevorHere Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Barclays used to combine and process CLI with no hard pulls...but that was a few years ago. Wonder if they will PC without a hard pull today....? Quote

Wonder if they will PC without a hard pull today....? I don't see why they should do a hp to begin with. They granted you a certain amount of credit and their shouldn't be any reason why they shouldn't allow you to combine or do a PC. Edited May 15, 2014 by WCH Quote

mendelssohn Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I'll add my Barclays experience. I had an existing card with a $4500 CL, was approved for a second card with a $2500 CL and moved $3500 from my existing card to the new card for a $6000 CL. I left $1000 on the old card. The rep had asked me if I wanted to keep the old card open amd whether or not I wanted to move some or all of the CL to the new card. I asked if I could move the CL from the old card in the future if I decided to close it and was told yes. I will update in the middle of next year when I plan on closing it. To summarize: Old card had $4500 CL New card approved for $2500 CL Old card now has $1000 CL New card now has $6000 CL Quote

TrevorHere Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Was curious to read NASA on the list as I can't understand why anyone would seek to obtain more than one card from them...but then I clicked back to read the experience. In general, it's not a good idea to obtain more than one card from a CU due to exposure rules, but that's for another thread I guess.... Quote
