I was VERY repectful, and I took allll the blame for my horrible record keeping, and made it sound like I wanted to take care of this TODAY b/c I can not bare the thought of a having a debt go unpaid. Both were very nice and willing to help.

Those were the easy ones, I have ones that are going to be MUCH harder. And theabove wont work b/c they are paid already. I really dont know how I will approach those b/c I have nothing to offer them (likepaying off the account).

Any ideas?

So I'm down to two that are arguably mine and are within SOL but are small amounts. Both of them have not budged one bit, even with multiple calls and escalations through management. So now it's time to play hardball.

I've tried being nice, now it's time to remember that most people won't change unless the pain of changing is less than the pain of staying the same. So it's time to bring the pain... turn up the level of hurt.

For one of them this should be rather easy. It's a city library (yes, a library) claiming late fees. I dispute the late fees, but have absolutely no way of proving that their records are wrong. So I've written an open records request for the contract between the city and the CA, any documents related to performance on the contract, and any and all releasable account information for every account sent from the city to the collection agency, including information and payments returned from the CA to the city. I specifically asked for demographic information, as I believe that a majority of people turned over to collections will be minorities (by the breakdown of our demographics), and that they city is knowingly hurting the chances of minorities to obtain credit and buy houses due to its policy of refusing to remove derogatory credit information when late fees are paid. Did I mention that it's an election year for mayor here? Next step will be an ITS to the City Attorney alleging improper recordkeeping on the part of the library and requesting a full investigation of their records. After that will be the media requests to the campaigns of mayoral candidates asking for their comment on their support for a city policy that damages the credit ratings of its citizens during an economic downturn, especially when it primarily affects minorities above anyone else.

I figure that will get their attention.

The other one? I'm still formulating my plan on how to deal with them. I'm going to give them one more shot at PFD before I go nuclear on them, too.

I love Texas laws.

So, I'm digging this topic back up. This is a great post, thank you! So for example, I need to get 2 Amex paid settlements deleted. I'm not quite sure how to find these mid-level CEO's employees. I don't think that calling Customer Service is the right way to start and I'm not quite sure what I should be looking for online.

Can some suggest a starting point?

Thanks!

Using this method, Countrywide removed a 30 day late!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!

I was doing a refi with them. On my own, I withheld my last mortgage payment thinking that the refi would go thru before the next payment was due. Thru a few issues on their end (as verified by my loan officer), things got messed up and the program I was going for was discontinued and I became 30 days late. I ended up refinancing with a different lender 2 months later, but I had a 30 day late on my mortgage info with CW.

Using the method outlined in this thread, I found some names of Customer Service people thru Linkedin. I sent the 6th or 7th email out today, and got a reply back almost immediately. I sent them the whole story. Two hours later I get an email back stating that they were going to instruct TU, EQ, and EX to remove the one late from my record. They're also sending me a letter stating that it is being removed for my records (and I didn't even ask for that!).

WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!

Amex is a different animal, but I used it when faced with F/R (kind of). I looked at their executive page, and figured their email format.

OK, I thought I was pretty good at using the web to find info..... I have read this entire thread 3 times over to learn the methods., (which I love by the way, Thanks Stryker!! :o )

I am getting no where on my search for emails contacts.. Maybe someone can shed some light here for me.

I signed up for LinkedIn, searched for the companies, found some peoples names listed, but no contact info that I can use at all.

I than searched google with those peoples names, nothing..

Tried going to corporate website looking for contact info or "@ABCorp.com" to search google... still nothing..

I must be doing something wrong. Do you use the paid subscription to LinkedIn?

I found Some names listed on Spoke.com but can only send message thru that sight. I read that was not a good idea.

Can anyone help me with this please? Here are some of the companies on my list:

Countrywide Home Loans.

Mac Tools (StanleyWorks).

Onyx Acceptance Corp.

GEMB (listed on my Credit report as Bassett/Gemb. was a furniture store credit card) Im assuming I have to deal with GE money Bank

Thank you so much for the help.

I fired off this letter to Verizon's president's e-mail address yesterday, and within 24 hours I received a reply from a Midwest Area Executive Rep...here's what I sent and what I received back::

Account #: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Amount: $494.40

Dear Mr. Seidenberg:

I am writing you today in reference to the empty feeling that I’ve been left with after dealing with several customer service representatives from your company, including “Anne†whom I spoke with just minutes ago. To give you some background on my situation, I enlisted into the military in August of XXXX and am currently stationed in XXXXXX. I ported my number over to another carrier prior to leaving for military duty due to Verizon not offering reasonable service in XXXXX. I never received a final bill from Verizon and just recently learned that Verizon is reporting a charged off account on my credit reports. This is totally unacceptable, as I would have willingly made the payment had I known about the debt. This item reporting on my credit report is ruining my chances to get the security clearance I need for my job; thus ruining my livelihood.

The amount listed is somewhat erroneous, but to save argument I would be willing to pay this account in full if you agree to immediate deletion of this account from any and all credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion). The purpose of this is merely to have this item removed from my credit files. It is not to be construed as an acknowledgment of liability for the total debt in any form.

Certified funds for the full amount of $494.40 will be mailed to Verizon Wireless, if you agree to the terms. In exchange for doing so, Verizon Wireless will delete all references regarding this account from my credit files, and this debt shall be satisfied.

Verizon Wireless agrees to delete all information regarding this account from the credit reporting agencies within one week following receipt of payment as specified above and will not discuss the terms of this settlement with anyone. If contacted by any third party, including credit-reporting agencies, Verizon Wireless will not acknowledge that any settlement offer was made, accepted or executed and will, in fact, deny knowledge of any such account.

If you agree to the above terms, please prepare a letter on your company letterhead agreeing to the same terms as the above settlement offer and have it signed by an authorized representative of Verizon Wireless.

Please address all correspondence regarding this account to:

ME

your addy

your town, usa

----------------------------------this is what I got back from them within 24 hours. My fingers are crossed!!

Hello Mr. debt_free,

Thank you for your correspondence. We have received your complaint and are currently working towards resolution. If you have any questions during the investigation, please contact me directly at 847-531-5310.

Thank you,

Wow... interesting.

You can still use the addresses, or use the format to figure out other contacts. I don't suggest mass emailing at the same time. Me? i would have cycled through every one first.

Thank you, Stryker.

That's what I was afraid of with Amex. I'm going to research their exec page and see if I can find some emails and give it a shot. Please put good thoughts out there for me;)

Thanks!

I need to find contacts for HSBC (Orchard Bank Gold Card). I've looked on Linkedin after making an account and you apparently need to pay money to use the mailing feature. And even then, powers advised not sending emails that way. So...... I've attempted to search google and whatnot and can't find anything. Can someone lead me to some email addy's for HSBC?

I have two 90days late I would like to send emails out for to try cleaning up.

Great thread, subscribing

Goodwill via Twitter

On another note, had a great experience with Well Fargo today on Twitter. If you have an issues with them (definitely for basic banking issues...not sure yet on credit card stuff), you can DM them on twitter and someone will send you the 800# for their exec resolutions team along with a case number...then you get a direct line for someone who is authorized to do pretty much everything :)

Also, found a great list of companies on twitter:

http://blog.fluentsimplicity.com/twitter-brand-index/

(**it goes without saying...don't give out any personal info via twitter...they should be able to just give you the right contacts. Wells Fargo didn't ask me any details at all)

Finding Email addresses

A lot of time, the email address isn't available, and you need to find the contact name, then figure out what the pattern for their email addresses is. It is usually one of these:

firstname.lastname@company.com

firstinitiallastname@company.com

I think i posted this already, but another good source for contact names (or at least figuring out the pattern) is lead411.com. You can do a free trial.

Cheers,

I'd like to add one tip to Stryker's post which worked wonders for me. I had a charge off with one of the major credit card companies 5 years ago. I ended up primarily dealing with one certain person at the executive office of this company through snail mail and phone calls. I kept all my letters and paperwork from that time. In July I wrote a goodwill letter to get this collection deleted and I sent it directly to the person I had dealt with. By doing this it made it very easy to make the letter personal as I already had communication with the person and not seem like a form letter. About a week after I sent it, I got a call from that person and they agreed to delete the charge off. The lesson to be learned here: the person you deal with your charge off now can end up being your biggest asset in getting it deleted in the future. :o
