You don't have to be worried with Pd card, but I would be a little careful getting your reported cards up too high in limits. You don't want them to be taken out of your utilization equation and result in a surprise utilization ratio.

the card I posted about was my fairmont card, cli to 60K. I am not too concerned about the limit going over 50K since I have about 700K in limits reporting.

Heg, now I am a little mixed up. The 60k cl pic you posted was about your fairmont card? Your caption was something like this is what palladium customer service can do. 15k to 60k without hard pull. I think a bunch of people assumed you were talking about palladium card (as I did) and caused a bunch of cli requests which turned out of be hard. Of course, if they had read earlier posts including ones from me, they would have been a bit suspicious.

So what scenario did you get cli without hard? I am guessing you recon your new fairmont card limit with palladium customer service and hey raised limit.

I know I screwed up. sorry. I was talking to Pd rep and he asked if I needed help with anything else and I said, well now that you ask... can you help me with the limit on my fairmont card?

yadayadayada, CLI on Fairmont.

I am sorry for being cryptic. I should have posted the info in the Fairmont thread not here as I was conflating the two thinking folks saw my Fairmont approval. For those who received hards, please forgive me. peace.

Heg, your the best. I am curious though was my guess right and there was on hard on the recon on initial limits.

when he asked what else he could help with, I

asked for CLI on fairmont and was put on hold. rep came back and said he talked to so-and-so and wanted to know how much I wanted. s. rep came back after a long wait and said it was approved. when I checked the next day and no hards; I have not checked for softs. frankly, even if there was a hard for this I'd be okay with it.

Heg,

I was recently approved for JP Morgan Select card with $6k limit today, but called the Palladium department for a switch. They told me they will look into the application for the select and let me know if they can approve me a Palladium.

What's your thoughts on going from Select to Palladium? They are almost the same except one has little better perks and higher annual fees.

Thanks

I like the Select card and might ask for a downgrade once my AF comes due. I guess it does not hurt to ask about product change, but Pd is a very different creature IMHO owing to the special offers and gifts. I am not sure if Select cardholders also get these or not. In short, I don't know enough about what Select card experiences are to make a cogent comparison.

Called today to see about changing my Select to another Chase product since I will no longer need it once the AF is due. Rep said that Pd and Select are JPMorgan cards and can't be switched to Chase cards. Likewise, can't updgrade a Chase card to a JPM product and can't upgrade Select to Pd.

Can downgrade, but only within product families.

Why do you want to downgrade from Pd? For lower annual fees?

JPM. Weird, because i tried initially when I received my Select and then a month later had to explain why I was applying for Pd. Was told then I couldn't exchange, and then again today. I guess it's now a YMMV. :)

This is very odd. The least they could say was "you can apply for the Pd", it's completely different product.

Anyways, how do you like your Select, and why do you want the Pd instead? the perks or the status? :)

my amex platinum and JPM Pd annual fees hit the same month and I plan to keep just one of the cards. Right now I am leaning toward keeping PD and downgrading platinum back to gold premier.

I've used $2,000 in gift cards from Pd partners, along with full membership in two airlines' lounge clubs (this is in addition to PP-select), and some concert tickets among other things.

on converting chase to JPM and vice versa, I've not asked about it but I have been able to more credit limits from chase to JPM Pd. I imagine it might depend on which rep you talk to as some seem to be able to do more than others.

I had the oposit exp...I tried to PC the Select to the PD and was told it is not possible. I closed the Select and applied for the PD seperatly.

So maybe the PD CSRs can do CLIs on Chase and JP cards...but the Chase CSRs cannot see or deal with the JP cards???

Just a feeling, but Pd may be in my future.

Or maybe HSBC's premium card. I would like something with a high CL that reports to backup my Amex. Basic goal is to be able to charge 100k on an occasional fling. I might be able to do that now since I have more than that in Amex savings. Anyone know if Amex charge cards have visibility into what you have in their savings and if that affects the exposure limit?

well Pd does not report which is one of the main reasons I like it. my limit allows me to charge 100K using the flex spending feature.

the hsbc premier card is okay and I read that hsbc is upgrading its perks.

n0. hsbc is maintaining its mainline cards including the hsbc premier banking card (the one with zero FETF, etc)

Were I in your position I'd feel the same way. But I'm not. At this point in rebuilding, I think going after reporting cards with higher CLs might be more strategic than getting a non reporting Pd card. I'm using my Amex a lot and perhaps that will entice some to give higher limits.

Or not.

Since I'm retired and my file has no employer history at all cards from places like JPM or HSBC might be my best bet. Especially if I use them for banking. Don't really know though and there isn't a lot of solid info on credit card vendors that are more asset based than income based.

Whoops...didn't mean to insinuate that the HSBC isn't a good card...just not a real big Cap One fan...in fct I checked it out after reading your post and Heges reply... unfortunately for me I do not have any HSBC banking relationship... And for what it is worth...I believe PD approvals are very sensitive to income and assets...maybe even factoring them more than your score...so if you have good assets I bet you can get approved with the right banker...

My bad. I had meant to reply to Hege.

I'm pretty sure, closer to certain, I could get the HSBC Premier W MC. but it duplicates much of the Amex Plat features. It's basically a $600 AF but waived if you have >100k with them. Anyone have any experience with their CL and flex spend max policy?

I think you can only get the card if you have Premier Banking. Dont know what the CL are like, but the balances in your accounts do play a factor. The program is decent but really good if you travel or have residencies in countries they serve.
