so, I signed up for SC a few weeks ago before I knew about the $9.95 promo and canceled within the 7 day trial period. I tried to reactivate it under the promo and it didn't work. I called and they said that this will not work any longer. they now have it where your account is tied to your SSN and if you attempt to open a new account under the same SSN, it won't allow you to do so even if the previous account has been closed.

 

so I asked them to change my price to $9.95 and they refused. I requested to speak to a supervisor. at first she said the same thing. but I said, "my friend just signed up and is paying $10/mo and I'm paying $25/mo for the same thing. does this sound fair to you?" and she said, well when you put it that way, no. so she said she had a work-around.

 

she had to check with the IT dept and make sure my credit monitoring wasn't active. since I had canceled the account a couple of weeks ago, it wasn't. if your account is still open, she said it takes a few days to deactivate the credit monitoring portion. then she set some flag in my account where it made it reconfirm my identity. when I logged in, it asked for my SSN again. she told me to enter 555-55-5555 and save. that cleared out my real SSN from my account. then she closed my account. then she told me to clear my cache and cookies and go to the promo URL. I actually just used a different browser which I had never used to access the site. I signed up, but had to use a different email address, since the other one was taken by the old account. it allowed me to then input my real SSN and continue and I'm all setup at the promo rate.

 

just FYI for anybody in my position. the supervisor's name is Rochelle and she was very friendly and helpful. she said just to call the 800 number on the website and ask for her next time. the same can't be said for the first CSR I spoke with...

I just got off the phone about an hour ago with the nicest supervisor ever from there. She was extremely sweet and went into my old account, reactivated it, walked me through entering all 5's for my social, closed the account and opened the new account with the Promo. I dont remember her name but she was an awesome person.l At the end she also said for the hassle she is going to give me a free month so I wont be charged next month.

 

Moral of the story, be nice, and they will return the favor.

that's the same girl and yes she's very nice. they run a small ship; there's only one supervisor over there.

Then thatd be her haha. Time to hammer down on B* so I definitely need that after an APP Spree this past week. Time to bring em all down to nothing!

so I just spoke with Rochelle today about something else and it appears this technique no longer works.

 

she said they updated the system in late Dec and now she has to submit a request through her IT department to get things reset.

 

on another note, she's still the nicest supervisor on the planet.

that's because you already viewed the site without the promo.

 

it stores that in a cookie and won't give you the promo price.

 

if you clear your cookies on your home comp or use a different browser you will see the promo price.

I recommend doing lots of reading before jumping back in.

 

lots of things have changed recently.

So I'm seeing. I had B* off quite a few before I started to get C*, got tired of getting C* with no B* and gave it up.

 

But a recent app spree has me wanting to jump back in. Off to do some reading...

Useful thread and thanks I rushed in as well and was paying $24.95. I cancelled my account and hopefully this will work in 6 months. I do not plan on applying anywhere for at least 6 months, so no use for B* on TU for now.

Just like so many I rushed into getting Smart Credit was was paying the $24.95 a month. I tried the new email address before I saw shifter's post on here and like him it didn't work. After entering my social with the new account, it said I already had an account.

 

I also noticed that they did charge my card for the $9.95 so I called in. I just wanted to get a refund. I did not expect them to make any changes to my accounts so that I could have the $9.95 price. But without me even asking, she offered to do it!

 

She closed my old account. Removed my social from that old account so that it would have to re-verify my info. She told me NEVER log in with the old account again.

 

This will allow my new account to accept my social. She said it will take her some time to do this and she will call me back. Once I'm successfully logged into my new $9.95 account I'll let you all know if it works!

They called me back. I was able to login with my new account and my subscription is for $9.95 a month!
