Lately, I've seen a lot of posts like "how do I get a CA off my reports?" and that's it

so I was thinking we could all work together and come up with a "template" of sorts...basically, if someone is asking a question, what information do we want included so we can best answer the questions in a timely manner...

here's the starters

your state

who the CA/OC is

how much

how old is it? (when did you first become delinquent)

are they reporting? If so, how?

how much is it for?

what have you done so far? (DV, disputes with CRA, etc)

what have you received from them? (letters, phone calls, etc) and when

any other input?

Whether or not the newbie section has been read.... that is my biggest turn off. If you cant take the time to do that, YOU cant take the time to repair your credit and are looking for a freebie.

HEHE, perhaps a quiz on the newbie section should be completed before posting privelages are given. :dntknw:

a descriptive title would be nice.

Three Four nondescriptive titles that I skip:

  • Hi {uhh, hello}
  • Need advice {with what?}
  • What to do {about what?}
  • I'm so mad { :dntknw: }

"HELP!!!" doesn't help, either.

THANK YOU!!

If the basics were mentioned, it would not take near as long to go back and forth to get a question answered.

Such as:

Your state

What have you done so far

SOL

Amount, or at least estimated amount.

And most of all, dont be ashamed to tell all the details. Dont hide anything. It can totally change the approach to the situation.

Something such as "Arrow has showed up on my reports, what do i do?"

And thats the only question in the thread.

Theres no way to answer that question based on that small amount of info.

Also, it can get confusing to see...

I had my story in "this thread" (link)

I had an update in "this thread"

I posted yesterday about the letter i got in "this thread".

And to day i got a call and......

Lets try to keep it all together.

I agree with bumping old threads in theory, but in my experience old threads tend to get ignored after awhile, even when the OP posts a very relevant update. It's almost like readers know it's old and (subconsciously?) move past it.

Changing direction: A good title can do wonders. Basically, a good title attracts the best people for a given situation. Nobody here is an expert in everything. Some are better at building credit, some at BK, some at student loans, some at DVing, and so on. A good title attracts people that are willing to give help at a particular subject because it's what they're good at.

Something mentioning the core question/issue is so much more likely to get read by someone who will have input to provide than is a vague generalized thread title.

Pet peeve #247: Thread titles which claim to be the most amazing, most awful, most unique problem, et cetera. Self-important and short-sighted. Drama. Center of the universe type of stuff.

Pet peeve #248: Thread titles which ask for the experts only or some similar phrasing.

Rude. Insulting. So very disrespectful to thousands of CB members who might have been willing to take time to read the OP's question and offer what probably would have been quite good input.

There's been a couple times I did not answer, even though I had an answer, because the OP made it a point to ask for only specific people.

I usually will anyway, but those couple times there was something in the tone of their post that was off-putting, like you say.

This DEFINITELY happens (a lot)!

It would also be effective for members to create their own posts.

I have seen many "Help me figure out why my score is decreasing". Then the OP gives the info.

About six posts later comes "Here is mine, i have a similair issue with a medical collection, where do i go from here".

The Point= Cut down on Thread Hijacking.

Then people will stop wondering why their questions never get answered.

putting "asshat" in the title instead of "asset".

I know it's cute and funny and all, but A LOT of threads get lost in the search function due to this.

Pet peeve #1: Actually use the search function before posting!

Many, many questions have been answered many times over already.

Excellent point, and one that I had never thought of. Like you say, it's all cute and funny, but we really should keep in mind that the whole board is an important and serious research tool for everybody else.

It wouldn't be the same without the daily Fico vs. Fako questions. :blush2:
