What a huge pain in the flowers.

Yup. Be sure to carefully read the instructions. They reject 4506-T's for all sorts of reasons.

I'm betting that when I call to reallocate limits they tell me that they can't because neither the donor nor the recipient card is yet one year old. Then again, I'm in a negative mood this morning. :D

They took my request over the phone... But then I got the letter today.

Interesting. With my SPG I was denied a CLI, I was maxing the low limit monthly paying the balance in full then repeating. I then asked for 4x the cards limit. Even at 4x the limit it would have been my lowest revolving major card. DENIED!I'm trying to gauge the right spending and utilization strategy with Amex to get my limits up. My new Blue is the same starting limit as my SPG. I don't want to transfer limits like I did with SPG. I might transfer the limit back to BCP, ice SPG and just go with cash back cards..Thoughts?Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Does anyone know if the 6 month clock resets when you ask for a CLI? My denial CLI from SPG should be coming up on 6 months. I did ask for a CLI on my BC card when it was 61 days old, that was denied because of the SPG denial. I'm confused on when I should CLI again?

I believe it's 6 months from the date of the last cli, but since you didn't get approved for the cli, I don't think their is a timeframe

Denied again! WTF? Your overall debt with other creditors listed in your credit bureau report and the credit limits on your American Express Cards is high in relation to your reported income.

All of my Amex cards currently have a zero balance except my PRG. I have other cards with limits above $20k, NFCU, USAA, GECRB. Many other cards in the teens. The only thing I'm carrying is a few 0% store financing cards. I don't get it. I will call them later today.

I'm pissed, I asked for a limit above $25k to try get them to ask me for a 4506-t and that seems to be a no-go.

Posted

that's because you requested >25k and they aren't going to give it to you.

they don't even bother with the 4506-T unless everything else is already in line.

you're much better off requesting 24k and maybe you'll get an instant counter-offer.

I don't believe you'll ever get an instant counter-offer if you request >25k.

also, carrying "a few" balances on store cards can definitely cause problems with CLI requests.

Went ahead and called them to ask why. Apparently I have too much credit available for my income. Didn't think that was possible. lol

I'd like to compare to the Heavy Hitters of CB to see if I'm maxed or if it BS.

Reported Income: $105k

Amex limits: $28k

Overall limits: $176k

4 cards with 0% balances; 9 with usage and no balance.

If you don't want to air your business please PM me. Thanks

just give it some time.

you will get CLIs eventually.

they just want to see you manage what you have for a bit longer.

I have less income and more in limits.

1 card carrying a 0% balance = to 15% of the cards limit.

90 days after the denial, you can try again.

@ captivated - Not sure if you're still following this, but I got denied with less than 10% after I maxed mine out weekly for the 61 days. Have you tried another CLI again?

Still no CLI for me... I put ~$20,000 on this card in the last four weeks, and just started to divert spending to other cards to keep from maxing it out. I'm sure they'd let me keep spending... But dammit!

I PIF every card every month, including this one. I refuse to push a payment for the most recent statement balance weeks before it's due because Amex can't get its sh1t together and decide if they want to give me a CLI. They aren't saying no, but I keep hitting procedural obstacles... Those are their problems, not mine.

I'm now putting charges on my Fidelity Amex and our B of A Privileges card as this gets sorted out. $2,000 today...

@ cv91915 - I had to start using my green card to keep from maxing out my revolver. And started using my NFCU also. BTW, what's so good about having a green card? And should I try to upgrade to gold around the 13 month mark?

Posted

The biggest benefit of the Amex charge products is the spending power. If you don't have a business that requires that, I wouldn't put any spending on the Green.

The Gold is only an "upgrade" if there are additional benefits that more than compensate for the additional AF (+$30)... and only you can do the analysis on that based on your own considerations.

If you don't need the outsized spending power (or, say, the travel benefits of the Platinum) you probably don't need an Amex charge product of any color or metallic makeup. :D

I've wanted the AMEX Platinum since I was a teenager working in retail. I have no use for it at all. But for some reason, I'm now in my 40's and still want that damn card.

I actually was thinking of trying again tonight.

What were reasons on letter for denial?

Posted

@ captivated - My reasons were as follows (in an English accent as if royalty):

1. FICO Score (actually improved since opening both cards)

2. Your debt with other creditors relative to the available credit as indicated by Experian (hadn't changed since opening AMEX account)

3. The length of time you have been a customer with AMEX is too short (was backdated to 2002)

4. The number of creditors who have reviewed your credit report

So can you call them tonight and if they approve you, I'll give you my info and you call for me too? Yes?

Posted

Somebody told me its a business decision. May have been cv91915. But damn. I'd like to do more business with AMEX.

@ captivated - Guess I'll wait until this fall. Thanks for conducting the experiment.

Posted

Wait the 90 days and go for it again.

i have done 61 days and then tried another 60 and now another 60 and still a no go
