They're well known for doing absurd things like charging $8.40 convenience fee, $2.50 instant-print fee on top of a $22 ticket.

I went to a retail location to avoid the $2.50 "print on the web" fee and I noticed that the retail location at Fred Meyer had a policy designed to discriminate against credit card users, however no measures against counterfeit bill users.

The sign reads "valid photo ID required for credit card purchase" How are they getting away with this?

I had a place try to pull that instant-print crap fee on me once. The event was still two months away, so I checked the box where they had to mail it to me for free. Got the tickets a week later. :)

I think some places have to be reported multiple times. This may not be ticketmaster, but the outlet's idea. But if you ask me reporting is the way to go. I don't even make a stink in the store anymore - too much hassle! It may take a while but eventually they get the message. Some times palces still ask but when I point out my card is signed they just go "Oh" and take my card without further ado.

If it's on a corporate level, individual outlet probably has no say over it.

Let me emphasize, the sign said "ID required for credit card purchase". I'm not talking about ID + card used to purchase required for retail pick up of a ticket ordered online.

Secondly, Ticketmaster is becoming less and less concerned with privacy and more about preventing resale. Some venues, such as Metallica concert is said to be only available as paper less ticket where you check-in by swiping the card used to purchase and showing photo ID at venue entrance.

Metalica is VERY protective of their revenue stream. To the point that it wouldn't surprise me that they don't give much thought to other's privacy, etc.

Did they actually require the ID? Are these signs posted anywhere other than the Ticketmaster area (other registers)?

Never had any problems with Fred Meyer. They were one of few merchants I knew of who up until real recently would not let you swipe your own card but required the cashier to swipe your card. They had a pinpad to handle debit, food stamp, etc. and the customer could swipe the card for those payment types, but the pinpad would not process credit. At a number of Fred Meyer locations in recent years, the cashiers actually took the card and compared the signature on it with what I signed like they are supposed to, a practice that is almost unheardof.

I see a grocery store in my area that offers Ticketmaster. I will be seeing if they have this policy posted.

sign said "ID required for credit card purchase"

Completely prohibited and outrageous! Merchants cannot make ID a condition of acceptance. Immediately call 1-800-VISA-911. Make sure that sign comes down and they never ask for ID again.

Never show ID for credit card purchases.

No ID required for credit card purchases. Merchants cannot require ID.

If a merchant tries to require ID, immediately call 1-800-VISA-911 to ensure they never do again.

VISA: 1-800-VISA-911

MasterCard: 1-800-300-3069

Also easily report merchant violations online:

http://www.mastercard.com/us/personal/en/c...violations.html

Check the box that says "Merchant required ID"

Never show ID for credit card purchases.

No ID required for credit card purchases.

Make sure your community is 100% violation-free. :)

Ugh! who even wants to go see these old bands anymore - not me - with their outrageous ticket prices, gigantic venues, horrible parking, security looking in your bag, no drinking some places, no weed, etc, etc.

LOL I sure sound like a genuine crotchety old-timer - which I guess I am!

If you paid ticketmaster with cash at supermarket, what would you swipe?

I would not swipe the card again. I would not allow it. Good way to get your card skimmed. That is technically against the credit card policy, I am sure MC & Visa is aware of this practice but do not stop it.

I'd say 28 is pretty old for a band.

The purported longest running metal band is 32, so they're getting up there, especially for the genre!

But also, that's 28 years as a band, not just 28 years old. I'd guess most bands don't make it nearly that long. Just a few long running ones like Rolling Stones and Aerosmith.

I had tickets at WILL CALL for a CHRISTMAS PROGRAM IN SOUTHERN CALIFONIA that I ordered over the internet from another state

They had a sign that said they needed ID for WILL CALL

They didn't really NEED the ID

Maybe if they had two people with the same last name???

They were all for specific shows on specific dates and specific times (and you couldn't pick up tickets till like an hour before the program)

My guess is that you would have been more that mildly pissed had someone gotten there before you, given YOUR name, got YOUR tickets because they were not asked for ID and YOU were left with no tix for the event...

Unless you blabbed to the whole world that you had tickets on will call who would even know to go ask? Do you just go up to will call every time a concert comes to town and say "I'm here to pick up tickets for John Doe." and see if you get anything?

Personally, I tend not to have to do Will Call...I either already have season tix or I have passes through a program or station. There have been some road events where I had to do Will Call to satisfy NCAA and school regulations regarding player passes...but that is rather a unique situation since it is NOT at the regular Will Call windows.

However...for the sake of discussion, there are lots of leaks of information through the systems and I would rather be in a position of providing proof that *I* am the person entitled to any tix that *I* might have at a Will Call window.

Oh, and YES, there are people who will try to scam their way into events by asking for 'their' tix by giving a common name...and who sometimes succeed in getting in even when there are no tix.

RED ABOVE---> :cry2:

Only my family in CA knew I was going...they told me what time and what date and seats they had (and I asked seats near them)

Since the tickets were purchased with a credit card, then merely presenting the card at will call should be sufficient. Photo ID should not be required and is a violation of MC and Visa rules.

Nothing in the post that started THIS derail (you know, the whole ID at WILL CALL) said PHOTO ID. But even if it WERE a photo ID that was required, it would not be a violation because the SALE of the tickets was not conditioned upon the ID. Rather, it was the pick-up at a remote location. Quite frankly, I would WANT staff at a WILL CALL window to make sure that they gave the tix to the correct person. I'd be PISSED beyond belief if I got there and found out my tix went to someone else...

Some of the ID nazis really need to get out into the real world sometime...
