Fresh and Easy? The ones I've been to were all self checkout.

once when the total was over $50 the computer/check out machine summoned a clerk to check my ID and the screen said something like ">$50 purchase, check ID for credit card"

Try contacting Whole Foods corporate office.

I did and they told me it was their policy to protect me. I asked what would happen if I refused to show ID; would they call the police? I go no reply from the "VP" who contacted me.

It sounds like those self checkouts at Fresh & Easy are misprogrammed just like the ones at Lowes, Albertsons, Wal Mart, etc in saying to check ID. NCR really needs to redo the programming on those because this is completely incorrect. Where is this Whole Foods located?

they claim it is corporate policy. next time I am not taking my DL or state ID. let them call the cops.

You better have your ID on you should a cop show up. You will be going to jail. You may anyway because it happened to other people who refused to show id.

I use to be like others. After reading what happened to people after refusing ID. I will gladdy show ID when asked.

I really think the US needs to get chip & pin. This way no merchant will normally not ask for ID when using a pin.

Of course the people arrested for not showing ID were not attempting to use a credit card. They were being asked for ID for different reasons (suspected theft). There is a difference webworm. Now show me your papers. All of them. DL, SS Card, Birth Certificate, Bank Account Statements.

Not according to what I read on Credit Boards and what I read on other sites.

Dig through this forum and you will find some cases that they got the cops called on them and some were arrested.

Edit

Here is one of them but there are other stories.

Um, that case didn't have ANYTHING to do with not showing ID; it had everything to do with the woman freaking out and walking out of the store in the middle of the transaction to take a phone call. Once the cashier ran the card, it came up as stolen; the cashier thought the customer was trying to flee, when in fact, the customer was taking a rather serious phone call. Where does ID enter the picture?

Google "best buy credit card taser" and you'll find more accurate accounts and video.

If it did really come up stolen. They should of called the Authorization Center for a Code 10 call. Not the cops.

I would not go outside in the middle of the transaction for a call. I would take the call right there if it was an emergency. I didn't see where she went outside to take a phone call. I would not leave the card at the register for the cashier to keep.

Wouldn't you get upset if using a valid credit card and it came up stolen? I would.

The point was, you might want to reconsider using this story as part of your reasoning that people should show ID-it doesn't supprt your claims at all.

If she showed ID to the Cops, nothing would of happened. Also, if she showed it to Best Buy they would of not called the cops. I did find an update. She was found not guilty.

According to witnesses she was not yelling. She was upset.

Once again, where was ID mentioned? I see absolutely no mention of ID in ANY of these accounts.

You do understand that the officer is widely seen (in the court of public opinion, anyway) as having been in the wrong for tasering the woman, right?

ETA2: Everything I've seen has said that when the card was swiped, the code came back as a stolen card. I haven't seen anything to the effect of "she was being asked for ID to use the card".

Not what I have read. One story said it was just left on the counter and the cashier thought it was stolen because she ran out of the store. Show me a link where it said that the Best Buy swiped the card. I thought all Best Buy stores had pos terminals that the consumer swiped the card. I would get ticked if my card came up stolen, when it is a valid card.

If it did come back as stolen Visa & MasterCard needs to change that code. This way people will not get accused of a stolen card when it is not.

Yes, I know the cop was wrong. I am not disagreeing with that point.

The point is the story had nothing to do with ID and never did.

Never show ID for signed credit cards purchases.

No ID required for signed credit card purchases. Merchants cannot require ID.

If a merchant tries to require ID, immediately call 1-800-VISA-911 to ensure they never do again.

VISA: 1-800-VISA-911

MasterCard: 1-800-300-3069

Also easily report merchant violations online at:

http://www.mastercard.com/us/personal/en/c...violations.html

Check the box that says "Merchant required ID"

Never show ID for signed credit card purchases ever.

No ID required for signed credit card purchases ever.

you're on crack if you think not carrying ID results in an arrest. You need to move to Singapore.

:grin::rolleyes::good:

That is rude and out of line. Have you ever been to Ohio Lately?

Do a search on google before making comments.

I may be wrong with that story but there are others that got arrested for refusing to show ID.

Actual, There was case (article is gone) where a man did get arrested for not showing ID at wal-mart and banned him from all stores. He sued and wal-mart settled. It took me a while to find that case because there was only one article on it.

To Continental or should I say George.

I am not going to start debating with you in this thread. We would never agree. I could prove you wrong but I am not going to. If you do not want to show an ID be my guest. I will keep showing id if asked.

Why would I consult google to know that you are smoking crack?
