My municipal water and sewer uses Lexis Nexis to process their CC payments ($4 fee).

I have NO IDEA what the charge will ring up as.

If not for the fee this would have been the perfect candidate to make a small test charge with.

Anyone has experience with this Lexis Nexis or this kind of 3rd party setup?

Check to see if your w&s company shows up. http://usbank.billeo...sitename=usbank

It shows up as Utilities in the billeo system but there isn't a MCC code.

Its been posted that often churches and charities use a 3rd party CC processor.

Those who have tried to use the Charity category to get CB have been disappointed because the CC processor doesn't have the charity MCC listed.

I am not sure how LexisNexis Payment Solutions would have their MCC listed but its likely their CC processing service caters to a wide variety of businesses.

It might be worth a call...

My "small town" w&s works for the utilities bonus. I had to search for it individually as it didn't come up in my list of commonly selected billers. However, because of the FEE to use CC and my monthly bill being so small (<$75), it was a wash on the rewards. So I just push payment from my bank directly. :(

No, what you have to do is PREPAY that bad boy.

Remember the Billpay bonus maybe retired in a few months.

I'm planning on prepaying about $600 (a year's worth) to offset the $4 fee.

I'll still come out ahead 4%+.

And if the rumors dont pan out I am still free to switch to another category during the next signup bcos all my qualifying utilities would have been paid.

Only problem with this is the $2000 Directv payment I have to make.

Outrageous!

Anyway, I just got off the phone with LexisNexis and after much explaining, CS contacted billing and confirmed their MCC code is 4900 (Utilities/Electrical/Gas/H2O/Sanitation).

So, my prepay Utilities will run about $5500.

With the initial 6 months 0% interest I not only come out ahead but I can take me time paying the balance off.

Edit to add-

Please note I made a mistake with the codes in post #622.

I listed 4899 twice. Its supposed to be

4812: Telecommunications Equipment

4814: Telecommunications Services

4899: Cable/Pay TV Services

4900: Utilities/Electrical/Gas/H2O/Sanitation

6300: Insurance Sales/Underwriting

Now I just have to figure out is it worth the hassle to get one of those checking accounts to sweeten the deal....

Was for me! Got the Gold, which requires a $500/month "DD". :P

Did they do a hard pull since you are an existing (CC) customer?

Should one wait until after the checking account is open before charging on the card?

Likely any charges incurred before opening the account won't qualify for the extra checking bonus....but then maybe they will. But don't let that stop you from using it for other bonus rewards...

THAT was really quick and painless.

Congratulations! You're application has been approved.

If you want the extra checking bonus, I'd wait at least 3 days before making any new CC charges!

Ouch, I think I messed up.

I just realized I used my Citi Forward to pay the $25 initial opening.

Any idea if that will be treated as a cash advance?

No biggie! Just PIF as soon as the charge shows up! :P

Congrats Kybosh!

BDK, not sure why you're advising him to wait to charge on it. The waiting won't allow any prior charges to earn the checking bonus portion anyway, but he will still earn the same on respective catergories...

It's only a mere 0.25% for checking bonus. But I'm not positive that CC charges the same day as the checking account is opened would post with the additional bonus. :dntknw: I've heard that there is a 3-day wait after selecting bonus categories before active.

That's the only reason why I suggested waiting a couple 2-3 days until the checking account has been fully set up, before running any "large prepayment" utility bills thru the CC.

It is often possible to request a credit balance refund check from utility or other providers in the event of a large, accidental overpayment.

$10 Cash Advance fee for that $25 funding.

I'm kicking myself right now.

I'll call to see if I can get a pass then I will set my CA limit to $0.

Sprint just put it back on the card used to fund the payment when I asked for it.

Most of my billpay I charged this week are showing and have posted the 5% billpay credit.

The only hold out is the Water & Sewer bill via LexisNexis (even though I called them to verify the MCC code).

I called CS to see what the deal was and it seems the clowns at LexisNexis told whooper.

Their MCC is 9399 which comes up as Government Services (Not Elsewhere Classified).

Not a happy camper today.

CS tells me to wait until the statement closes then call and ask to talk with a supervisor and maybe they can do something for me since its clearly a utility bill.

Otherwise, I'm out of $24.16. As it stands right now I dont have enough to reach $100 for the $25 bonus.

I do still have a two major utilities I need to pre-pay though.

:(
