I would probably go so far as to say don't use debit at all, since this can happen potentially anywhere at anytime. And of course, debit or credit, always watch your statements. Debit especially though (credit gives you a much longer zero or low liability window, debit it's already $500 liability after 2 days in many cases).

exactly. debit cards suck.

They were each charged for allegedly stealing credit card information from customers and using the information to purchase personal items and paying utility bills.

Utility bills? WT?

Maybe I'm missing something or my web browser is incorrectly translating the article. Can you point me to the part where it says debit?

there isnt one. just the debit card bashers trying to make a very weak point. this was credit card fraud according to this article.

Funny thing is they probably would have been better off using a debit card instead of a credit card since the debit would have required a pin. I use my debit card for EVERYTHING, except fast food, but only because most fast food places charge a fee for using them. I just use cash to avoid the fee.

Ehh. #1- Debit does not require a pin.

#2: They can't charge you a fee to pay with credit. Report them, this is a merchant violation.

Uh, everytime I've ever used my debit card it most certainly DID require a pin, fast food or not.

I've reported TONS of stores who charge a fee for using a CC and NOTHING has happened, EVER. It would be nice if that actually worked though.

I have bought food at most every fast food joint in this town and have never used a pin

Probably because you were using it as a CREDIT card and not a DEBIT card. Just like in the grocery store or gas station you can choose how to use it, as credit or debit. Have they ever charged you a fee for using it?

Cancel, credit and sign. You can always say credit to the cashier if the CC processing isn't tied into the POS.

Did you report to 800-VISA-911?

Yeah, that would be using it as a CREDIT card, not a DEBIT card. If you were using it as a DEBIT card, you most certainly would have to enter a pin.

Alright, look,I am not going to get worked up over this. Assuming your card has a V/MC/AMEX/DISC logo, you can press or say credit and it will work just fine, no pin needed.

I highly suggest calling 800-VISA-911 on this violating merchants and get them to stop at once.

ALSO, report them easily online. http://www.mastercard.com/us/personal/en/c...violations.html

Worked up? Why are you getting worked up?? ;)

You say you don't need a pin# to use a DEBIT card, not a CREDIT card. I'm not saying you can't use a debit card as a credit card, ok? I never said you can't. You ok buddy?

I also said I have reported them TONS of times, calling AND using that website. Nothing has happened and this has been YEARS.

I gotcha, I guess most places around here have no pin pad and they don't bother asking.

You might try using a credit card and charging back the fee. That should cost the store a good $25.

Yes, I am fine.
