  1. In a word, yes. Apples to oranges comparison. Trying to remove inquiries that YOU put there, is clearly not the same as requesting that CRA's report accurate info (as required by law) OR remove the TL (as required by law). gotcha.. b*=bad.. lol
  2. Inquiries that do not have PP and have negative consequences should be disputed. Disputing that it may be someone else with a similar name when you KNOW that it's yours is indeed "false." There's no way around it. That's not a "technicality." It's a LIE, i.e. FALSE. I had a BK deleted early from TU. They had the wrong filing date listed (and your BK comes off 10 years from date of filing, so I needed it to be right). I disputed the date, expecting them to simply correct it. But instead they deleted the BK. THAT is a "technicality." The date was wrong. I did not lie. But how they dealt with my dispute came out in my favor. I'm all for that, just like I'm all for B*. If someone hands you a gift, it's not wrong take it. But that's not the same as stealing it. The guy on here whose $500 Gap store card was just inexplicably upgraded to a $30,000 Visa is doing nothing wrong by accepting that offer. However, if he'd grossly overstated his income, or had pretended to be his rich dad etc. to get it, that would be "false." Do you see the difference? Is validation of a debt that you know is yours so different? Sure you can argue you are making sure they own it, but most are looking for something to dispute with. Stating that "this account MAY not be mine if they don't list the correct SSN since there are at least 3 people in the US with my name" is similar to me to saying "the account you have listed is incorrect, it must be removed or I will file suit" when the only error is $1.03 on the amount". If the CA didn't have your SSN when they placed it on your file then how did they KNOW 100% that it was right? I guess we now give points for them guessing correctly and hope theres another technical messup on their part? Both have resulted in removals and both have their risks. Many people trying to have accounts removed have had them updated with correct (and much more damaging) information. I don't see disclaimers all over the place for people filing disputes over inaccurate account info but we sure praise them when they get a deletion.
  3. I have mixed feelings on both this thread and the DB method one. This one mostly because he won't/can't say in the open what it is. I however disagree with most on why it's a bad thing. I've never subscribed to the reason for not working on inquiries because they are reletively unimportant. On manual review a single collection inquiry cost my wife $7000 in interest on a mortgage. The inquiry was from a collector that had bought a VERY old debt and was "trying to locate her". I'm following another thread about a similar happening and may start another with our results when we file suit since we do have damages but stating that inquiries are too small to matter is akin to saying that while removing a knife from a stabbing to only try to get 90% of it out, it's ok to leave the tip that's broken off. I also don't believe information shouldn't be shared because newbies might get themselves in trouble using it. To me that would apply to just about everything here and is pretty much what the newbie section is for. Heeding any advice on this forum is at your own peril I believe. In the DB method I see there are some risks, depending on the circumstances some more than others. I don't think disputing that it may be someone else with a similar name is any more false than many of the other disputes we file daily here. Technicalities are what we use in most every case to get things removed, otherwise we'd need to only be asking for corrected information rather than removal in 90%. I do agree however that the mods and admin here have the right to decide what's to be displayed here and understand how the pm me and call me threads would lead to pm's being turned off. I'd think the posters should be able to give a hint in order for the mods to make a determination. Also I would think that nayone being solicited to take a service within the pm's here would tell the mods immediately. Double edged sword there too. Cory
  4. Seems it'd only be a problem for subprime consumers.
  5. I like my Discove More. I use it during the 5% promos. THey've done pretty well though the initial limit is usually conservative you can ask for a CLI at 6 mos. My wife apped and was approved for $2500, and after talking to the CSR more found out why. She's reporting 19 revolving accounts open, about half are AU's on my accounts. Secondly they knew the exact average size of the tradelines. THey told her that her average card size is $2645.00. If she'd closed her little hooters and HSBC cards and I pulled her off my toy cap1 she'd probably have gotten more. ALSO!!! on the other income part they want you to list any income used to pay bills and your spouse counts!!! her annual income would have went from $55k to 7 figures. They udated on the phone but once the limit is set you're stuck for 6 mos. I think it's a great tool to have in your toolbox.
  6. Wow, what credit cards do they have? I want 8 points per dollar. Spin machine is definitely still working.
  7. I don't know Bob, my wife has a mortgage on one of our properties. I've only once in the past 10 years made any kind of payment to it or contributed to a payment for it. Our local CU carries the note and specifically tells me not to list it on my apps. They have her list the full amount on hers (neither of us have any DTI issues). I think if our annual income was less than 100k maybe the banks would take issue but my wife could easily make 4 mortgage payments like this one and I could easily pay it off today if we wanted to.
  8. Since every merchant with a discover merchant account with a SIC code within the category would have to be on the list for it to be accurate I doubt it. I'm not even aware if Discover would have access to that info in total.
  9. CashRewards is 1% up to 10k a year in use, then 1.5% after
  10. my lowest account balance in checking is just over $40,000 (navy)so this instance wouldn't even be a financial hiccup for me. My FCCU check card offers 1.5% cash back on all purchases so I'd hardly say "debit cards offer pretty much no rewards". Some people here don't have access to credit cards, or at least cards large enough to use on a day to day basis. As to your "100% fraud liability guarantee" I see people on a weekly basis having to pay for transactions they claim as fraud, even when they have decent evidence to prove it. I'm not disagreeing that credit cards can offer some benifits compared to check cards, but don't fear any of the tools available to you. Use them where they fit.
  11. Wrong. In the US Discover has about 3x the merchant accounts that Amex does. You'll rarely find a merchant that accepts Amex but not Discover. But, as a side note, Amex processes something like 25 percent of the total money charged on credit cards making it the largest credit card brand. Less than 10%. It 3rd or 4th of the big 4 depending on who you ask and last of the big 4 for acceptance.
  12. Wrong. In the US Discover has about 3x the merchant accounts that Amex does. You'll rarely find a merchant that accepts Amex but not Discover.
  13. I asked a similar question in a different thread. You can search it under "how to avoid getting shot while playing russian roulette"... In my time here I've learned that if you have an amex card have a supply of vasaline handy as well as several backup cards.
  14. I don't really consider my Flagship a "signature" card. Though it has many of the signature card benifits it also has a preset spending limit and reports that limit to the CRAs.
  15. It's not a late fee - its a payment fee. Don't act like thats ok! Seriously, when did the concept of having to pay a fee to pay a bill become accepted? When you have them initiate an ACH (which costs them a small amount). They don't feel the need to help you get your mortgage payment to them on time at their cost and have learned that they can charge for it and people will pay it or send money another way.
