I was told they look to see if you are in "bad debt". They sometimes think that if you are in "bad debt" you might steal from them to pay your debt.

Can it keep you from getting a job? Yes

Don't quote me on this, just what I have heard.

But how bad is bad debt? :clapping:

I have a couple of secured lines of credit. A van payment. And two or three collections that I can't prove aren't mine, even though I KNOW they aren't!!

thats no easy answer as "how bad is considered bad " is totally subjective to the position applied for . A few dings and dents are one thing if your applying for say "Armored Car Security " vs The Secret Service . I know Law Enforcement at virtually any level is another career field that weighs credit history when doing backround . Im screwed if they pull a full factual .

It is for a financial advisor position.

Ironic but the only reason my credit was bad was I didn't have any money. And the reason I didn't have any money was I let my husband (ex now) take it all.

I can tell you that when we run credit for employment, we look for: no bk, no judgments other than auto accident, no forced child support, and no collections other than medical. We also look for an address match and use the info obtained from your CR along with your app, and a state run BC to determine employment eligibility.

I have no bankruptcy, I have no judgments, I have no child support, I have a water bill that isn't mine. and I directtv bill that I KNOW I paid.

I also have some old weird collection that I never heard of from asshat. See that is just not fair that they have to have such little proof and can mess up your life like that.

What is a full factual?

RANT ALERT!!! OK I have done some looking around and now I am very concerned.

If a full factual is pulled and goes back more than seven years I have no Idea what may be on there.

I guess I can hang this job up. I am going to be honest with them, but it really peeves me off that your past can bite you like it does.

I am extremely disappointed because I really wanted this job. I am mad mad mad.

I know it is my fault about my credit. I could have not gotten a divorce I could have not gotten sick and I certainly could have NOT married my current husband that doesn't know how to pay a bill to save his life.

I had a horrible run of bad luck, I did everything I could to try to straighten up my credit and now... well I am just plain screwed.

I hate the power that CRA have. And these lying evil collection agencies. I hate them all. I am still fighting the lawsuit that asshat brought against me.

I am furious at this point.

THIS HAS RUINED MY LIFE IF I CAN'T GET THIS JOB.

There has got to be a way.

Personally, I think you will be fine. I do not have the best credit in the world and have worked in insurance the last 12 years. I believe every company I have applied to recently has not had a problem with my credit. My belief is they look to see if you would have reason to embezzle money or commit fraud. I have issued checks for more than $100K and never once thought about taking any of the money. The best advice I can give you is to not worry about it so much, it's likely not as bad as you think.

Good luck on your first day on the job, yes I'm a strong believer in naming it and claiming it.

A "Full Factual" report is rarely if ever pulled anymore and they are expensive. The FCRA also specifies certain criteria that must be meet in order for the older information in a "Full Factual" to be released.

Right I have even been asking people to clear off time in their schedules because I would need an appointment.

But financial advisor is one of those jobs (like banks) that look at your credit. One exception is a job that could reasonably be expected to have an annual income of more than 75K. Since the average salary a financial advisor is likely to make is in the 100K range. I am positive the exception is met.

They have to do their due diligence and when looking at prospective employees, a full factual would seem reasonable.

If the only problem they can see is my credit I am going to do my best to be able to over come it. Most jobs say credit reports aren't a deal breaker. BUT this job (which happens to be my dream job) could be an exception.

A full factual credit report is actually:

"Credit Report - May need to order a full factual credit report which is the three major credit report bureau's blended onto a single report, with all accounts and balances verified. Usually takes 2-5 days"

It doesn't say that it goes back any longer. Still looking will post anything else I find ;)

My company performs background checks which include a fingerprint history and credit checks.

I was upfront at the time and told them exactly what I had. They said that they allowed around 5k of negative debt credit history.

Hope that helps

Who's "we"?

And no forced CS? Are you serious?? I have forced CS by virtue of the fact that my ex gf believed she was entitled to more $ than I was already paying her. She went to the State and when I showed up for the mediation they said "yep, you owe what you've been paying and here's a judgment and wage garnishment for you. Have a nice day!"

I could have fought it, but there was no way I was making it out of that building without a judgment.

"all" being the operative word. Even though derogatory information cannot be reported in your consumer credit report after 7 years, that information can remain in your file indefinitely and retrieved pursuant to FCRA §605(B).

This is all the more reason to have derogatory accounts DELETED as part of the repair process.

A full factual is nothing more than a manually verified credit report.

That's why it is expensive and takes a few days to complete.

If information has been deleted prior to a full factual report, it will not be present on the full factual.

The company I work for does a complete background check, fingerprint, credit check I have to be licensed with the state the whole nine yards.

Their credit criteria is a point system no more then a hundred points or you do not get hired no exceptions the way they calculate it is 10 points for 1 30 day late 50 points for a charge off 25 points for a 60 day late. I think its 50 points for a paid judgment, if anything is unpaid no hire.

And why should I pay something I don't owe?

May I ask what sort of company this is?

edited to add: I wouldn't be able to work there on my student loans alone. I thought they were in deferment and they weren't.

I have access to peoples personal financial information on a daily basis that's why they are so strict with who they hire.

Oops sorry I'm editing to add I work for State Farm

Well I am heading out for the interview. I will just be completely upfront. If I get it, I get it.

If it isn't meant to be I won't.

But I can still hate it if I want to hate it..

I will report how it goes!
