They put this on about 2 months ago, a rep told me on the phone at the time, and sure enough, it has been there under "Account Benefits"...

 

I think with this and the IT card they're trying to boost their game, but they HAVE to get rid of that .25%... Can't really call Discover subprime anymore.

so discover is only now adding this type of consumer protection? haven't other issuers offer it for years?

 

I really enjoy reading your insightful information and humor, but lately it has been negative on positive thing. Discover is not a bad company. Just my opinion.

I was asking a question. I mean it is good for discover card holders; I am just surprised these benefits were not in place already. sorry.

Call them anything you want to. But for me, the .25% kills any real desire to use my card. Unless that is dramatically improved on, I won't carry the card.

I'd still carry it for the 5% categories or the occasional 2% bonus cashback offers, assuming you don't have other cards that already meet those needs.

Discover seems to doll out benefits like these based on some internal criteria. For example, I just got a letter informing me that I'm now a 'premium' card member, with access to exclusive benefits. Among them are the extended warranty and purchase protection mentioned in this thread. But I also get roadside assistance, travel delay insurance, and MyConcierge. All in all, it looks a lot like an Amex.

According to this, they actually have a level above premium called premium plus that provides enhanced concierge services above the premium level, and airport lounge access. On a no annual fee card, that is pretty good. I wonder what you have to do to qualify for those benefits.

 

EDIT: An additional search reveals this about premium plus:

 

"Discover's Premium Plus card gives users access to 350 airline lounges and 24/7 live customer service with a specific team, no spending limit and access to VIP experiences, such as special seating at events like the Kentucky Derby, sailing events on Lake Michigan and "meet the chef" tours. [snip]

Also, to make Discover's Premium Plus card seem more exclusive, people must be invited to apply for it. American Express' Centurion card also is marketed by invitation only."

The Premium Plus product is designed to appeal to high-spend, high-volume consumers who have a stronger purchasing capacity.

I wonder if going from $300 to $1500 bonus spend a quarter will get me an invite. :P

 

I pushed about $3000 in spend through their card in about ~5.3 months and that got me bumped to premium, so it might.

We're assuming it is spend - maybe it is something else, or a combination of factors. I hope you get the bump!

Hmm, I haven't gotten any of the new Discover benefits yet.

Can you see them if you got to Card Benefits-View All Benefits

 

I was only notified by e-mail on my Big Discover, but Baby Discover has them too. :D
