I'm fine tuning my revolving account management and decided to close an inactive Citi account, looking to reallocate the line to another Citi card.

Response was that Citi no longer permits such reallocations. An exception might be if I were to apply for a new card and the assigned line was insufficient.

Decided to keep the account "on tap" for the time being, pending such an application.

bump for the evening crowd ...

I'm interested, in particular, if anyone has had similar recent experience with Citi. A couple of years back, you could pretty much re-allocate at will. All the issuers seem hesitant to allow this now, other than exceptional circumstances.

Since my Citi exposure has been maxed out, seems a no-brainer to seek out another attractive Citi product and make an app (choosing to roll this line in when the won't assign a sufficient credit line on the new card, or deny the app due to current exposure).

Yes, this seems so be their MO lately.

Don't be surprised if they won't let you move your entire existing limit from an existing card to a new card either.

There have been numerous posts in the past year about this topic an no, unfortunately you can't move limits on existing cards although occasionally you can on a new app.

Somewhere is a thread started by cv91915 about issuers that allow you to combine limits and there are some Citi experiences there. I would have linked it if I could find it.

I can't find that thread either. I've looked at least four times.

That's what I did, too.

I tried to move some lines maybe... 4 months ago? At that time they told me they'd need to do a hard pull to reallocate the limits.

Citi is awesome for a lot of things, but their front-line credit card CS is not one of them. It does get better once you have a "gold" level card, though.
