The Comenity Outage Idle Speculation Thread

I actually came to credit boards just now to see if this was being discussed. I have a Wayfair card from Comenity that I can't access to pay. I was able to pay last month. I called and the lady told me that it was an outage that would be resolved. A few days later, tried again, it still says my account is closed. So I did some googling and found an article dated July 1 regarding the outage. It's now July 23. I can't pay via Easy Pay because I can't find the card number!! I think I shredded it at some point because I could no longer use it once Wayfair stopped using Comenity and shut the credit line. I only know the last 4 because it's in the emails they send me. And the lady wouldn't give the full card number to me over the phone (like why not? It's not like purchases can be made with it anymore). I don't remember an option to pay over the phone, but I will call back and try that again. I tried to use the secure message feature on their page but it wanted me to log in to do that, and once I did, it again said the account was closed. Absolutely crazy that an outage can go on for this long at a financial institution. So frustrating.

Got it - thanks!

We did sign up for Hyatt Gold Passport, btw, so we're earning points that way. This particular location is a category 2 hotel. Astro - the only other hotel in the vicinity near his school is a Best Western which we stayed at a couple of times, until we found the Hyatt. The Hyatt Place location is nicer - and cheaper. And I'm all for nicer and cheaper. The card would give us free stays right off the bat though. Sigh...

What exactly does "recon" mean? I keep seeing this but am not sure exactly what it entails.

So if it's usually 5 years post BK, but a benefit since we didn't cause them a loss, when do you think we should try? (or even if?) I'm wondering if there is any other rewards card that offers rewards that can be used with Hyatt, besides this.
-
My son just started college out of state and the hotel we usually stay at when we go out there is a Hyatt Place. I'm interested in the Hyatt Card by Chase to gain the rewards benefits since we will be staying at this hotel quite often over the next four years. Does anyone have it, and if so, what do you think? https://creditcards.chase.com/lp/hyatt/?CELL=618W Also - we are almost a year out from a bk7 discharge (October) and at the time we filed, we had four zero balance cards with Chase that they ultimately closed. Don't know if Chase is interested in doing business with us again since they didn't take any losses from us, but I'm willing to if rewards we can use are involved. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Unless you reaffirmed the debt you are not on the hook again with a modification. With a refinance, it's a whole new loan that is not discharged, so you'd be back on the hook. But with a modification, it's the same loan, just modified, so it is still discharged. Best to save those types of questions for your attorney, as Wells Fargo minimum wage call center employees just simply don't know and very few are bankruptcy experts. I even asked my lender's bankruptcy department the same question and they told me to ask my attorney. So I did. I did not have any lawyers fees added to my arrears but I didn't get that far delinquent. I just had the back payments plus late fees added to the loan.

Are certain Barclays cards easier than other Barclays cards?

If you are rebuilding, you aren't going to get prime cards. Barclays is a good stepping stone, and you can PC or move limits around, so it will be of use to you in the future. Forget the interest rate and PIF. Their CLs won't grow btw if you don't use the card. I think I would consider any CU card a "prime" card. That's just what I have so far. Rate is 10%, but it is secured and only $500. I will wait to the year point to ask for them to unsecure it and increase the line. in the meantime though, I'm getting offers from places like "Blaze Bank." Ugh -

I don't plan on using it at all. But as I rebuild I want to rebuild with prime cards - no matter how long it takes. I'm just trying to get a feel for what kind of card it is. I don't know much about Barclays at all. Trying to stay away from the Credit Ones and all the strange offers I'm getting in the mail - "based on your credit you are just the type of card holder we are looking for!!" Yeah...sure. lol Into the shredder. -

Before I accept the offer, I'm curious if there is another one, a better one, with a lower interest rate. 22.99% stinks of subprime to me. What is your interest rate with Barclays? -

I just got a preapproval offer for a Barclay Rewards at a variable APR of 22.99%. Is this the "good" one? How can I tell? BK7 discharged 10/12, and so far I only have a secured CU visa for $500 at 10%. I only want prime credit to rebuild, no matter how slow the process. (So the Credit One and other junk offers I keep getting just go in the shredder.) No idea what my FICO is. I read above that there are two different Barclay Rewards cards? Should I accept this offer or apply for a different one? Not too pleased with the APR but there is no annual fee so if I don't use it and it just serves as a stepping stone to something better, I'm fine with it. -
What is a "Department of Defense" installation? My dad was an aerospace engineer for North American Aviation/Rockwell/Boeing working on projects contracted for NASA (Gemini/Apollo/shuttle). Is that DOD? He's retired now and receiving a pension. He's also an AF veteran but from what I'm gathering here that doesn't count as he only served four years. And, I doubt he'd want to join for me. Am I out of luck?

Most of the larger credit unions don't participate. They have a large number of branches. They all participate in Co-op ATM's, however. Shared branching is more for the advantage of the *smaller* credit unions and their members without a lot of branches to choose from. And even if a credit union participates in shared branching, not all of their branches participate. Usually only some do. Call first and ask.

We are the only developed western country in the world without universal health care. The only one. The ONLY one. THE ONLY ONE. WHY people have such a problem with the Affordable Care Act - which is a BABY step towards universal health care - I don't understand. Had you gone to the ER in Canada, England, Greece, Spain, France...ANYWHERE ELSE...we would not be having this conversation. You would go to the ER and not pay a dime for the visit. Sorry...getting off my soap box...just no such thing as "medical collections" in these other more developed countries...just sayin'. My vote - pay the bill (negotiate a settlement of course), get a part time job to pay the bill if you have to, and even better, get a part time job that offers you medical insurance so you don't run into this scenario again. Come next year take advantage of the insurance exchanges to purchase yourself insurance that you can afford. None of us will be spring chickens forever... Good luck in whatever you decide.
