  1. If you can't manage the pay, he should start looking for a new job. If he really loves the job, he might look into getting a second job at night to bring in more money. Here's another link that may help in the meantime so you don't have to eat PB&J: http://creditboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=117091
  2. And get on a written budget today!! Live below your means.
  3. There's been an ongoing two year discussion about this here: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messagevie...threadid=270766
  4. That still seems crazy to me...I guess that's because my budget is $25 for clothes, $120 for gas, $20 for lunch, and $20 for other entertainment. If you could tighten up a bit more you could save another $200+ per month. And if DH could do it to, another $400+ per month. I think you really should be saving more. I can try, but this is already a pretty big change for me There's no way I could only spend $20 for entertainment, but I can probably trim some more off of the clothes and lunches out. I have family in Washington DC that I like to visit at least once a month. The trip down there, with gas and tolls, usually costs me at least $60 which will come out of my entertainment budget (not my regular gas budget). Oh yeah, we have a separate travel budget. That makes your entertainment number look more reasonable to me. Good luck! The hardest part is getting started and looks like you're doing that.

  6. If there is no interest on the student loan and interest on the mortgage, I'd say the mortgage. (Well, as long as you have an emergency fund in place.) If they had the same interest, I'd pay off secured debt before unsecured debt.
  7. He's not making any sense. He's saying he would rather pay a bank 19% instead of (saving the money and) having a bank pay him 4%. Tell him to grow up and live within his means.
  8. If they weren't living above their means they would have saved up the cash for the car and other items that were put on the credit card. OP, you should never transfer unsecured debt (credit cards) to secured debt (house). It adds a risk you don't need to take.
  9. You're curing the symptom not the disease.
  10. I agree. The are two ways to fix this problem: increase your income or decrease your spending. You can't borrow your way out of debt. Get on a written budget. You could also get a second job to jump start your plan.
  11. Emigrant - 4%
  12. Well put, Clarkfan.
  13. If your prone to impulse shopping you should stay out of the mall. (It's sort of similar to saying if you're an alcoholic you shouldn't hang out in bars.)
