Was there to pick up something. Female cashier asked for ID. I told her "its signed". The female demanded and threatened to deny the sale unless I show her the ID to "compare names" or errr perhaps possibly show it to her hidden cam so she can sell customer info just as address in another thread here earlier? For that possibility, I refuse to show ID.

What a ding-a-ling. I suppose the attitude goes well with that name.

Tin hat much???????????

From what you've posted, you're obviously on retailer side. I see your title is "automotive lead" so I think you know a thing or two about dishonest mechanics that screw over people who don't know better.

Retailers don't have much to lose from checking ID and they're not concerned one bit with customer's security. They're only concerned with their OWN pocket book. The current law does not entitle cusomers to recover punitive damage from retailers in the event of damage caused by information leak from their system.

You have nothing to gain by showing ID, plenty to lose.

DISHONEST restaurant and retailer workers. This is nothing new.

CAN SHOWING ID EVER PREVENT ID THEFT???

It can certainly minimize further damage to the victims...more than one prosection has followed the actions of a clerk asking for ID, which spooked the criminal.

If they demand ID...walk away...after having them refund your card/void the sale...and take your business elsewhere...call Visa/MC if you'd like to report them

if you want to be a <insert term for male anatomy here> yourself to them...then demand a manager...and district/regional manager...spend HOURS there if you'd like...and teach them a lesson...

You should contact their corporate office. I had one of their southwest stores doing this a while back and the issue was promptly addressed by the store manager once I emailed the corporate office.

The corporate feels that it needs to know the receipt code number and make the matter personally identifiable to address the matter. Next time, I should just let the decline it, so that I can say "not available, because the store refused to complete the transaction in consistence with VISA/MC policy by requiring presenting more information than they're allowed to collect"

And why would you NOT want to provide them with the information to PROPERLY investigate your whining, err claim?

After all...they may have some items that require ID to be shown and they want to confirm that none of those items appeared on your transaction...

But I guess it is easier to rant in vague generalities and call people names...

They want the receipt information to identify the cashier. Tell them you don't want to give them all of the information, or that you have misplaced your receipt. Or if somewhere on the receipt it has a name/cashier/associate number just give them that part and nothing more.

I have no problem showing my DL. How in God's name are they going to steal your I.D. by showing a photo? They want to make certain the photo name matches the CC name. Some people wake up in the morning wondering who they will screw with that day when there are more important issues to be faced. I am glad they ask for a photo I.D. or why when a customer has a Costco AmEx do they put your photo on the back? Get a life how petty!

YOU FEEL FREE TO SHOW ID ALL YOU WANT

FOR MY PROTECTION...I DON'T SHOW ID

When you get ID THEFT don't come back and cry here

It doesn't happen every day...but it happens

I STILL WANT TO KNOW WHO YOU ARE PROTECTING BY SHOWING ID
