nice apples to oranges red herring...
Showing ID to a clerk to complete a transaction is NOWHERE near analogous to putting one's personal information in a web-based forum for millions upon millions of prospective views.
Maybe when you enter the real world, you will see the EPIC FAIL of your attempt....

I'm not understanding GEORGE.
Don't get me wrong . I HATE being asked for ID because it is a violation and I've reported merchants for that as well.
I just won't post my ID or CC on here because it's a public forum. That is all.
I wouldn't yell at the cashier about it either

What if the clerk notices you buying a 7-day fish feeder at the pet store, figures you'll be on vacation soon, and uses the address on your ID to steal from your house while you are gone the next weekend?
Now, for those who suggest posting a scan of my credit card. Part of the rules for zero-liability protection are that you must reasonably safeguard your card information. Thus, posting it on this forum would be a violation of my end of the agreement.

So people have admitted that there is a risk to letting other people view your identification... yet they will gladly show it at point of sale.

you really do have to stretch for a comeback after you get called on your bullcrap...
But, for the sake of responding to your relative non-event, when I DO elect to show my ID, the address is not visible. As a second response, they will have to figure out how to get past the alarm. Once the alarm goes off, they then have to elude my armed neighbors (we are all staunch supporters of the right to defend ourselves and believe that gun control means hitting that which you have aimed at when you point the gun to squeeze the trigger).
I have to wonder if you worry about the TSA agent at the airport selling your information after you show ID at the security screening. Same principle...and at least in THAT red herring scenario, they KNOW you are going to be out of town.

Yes, because the Walmart cashier has undergone the same extensive criminal, credit and background checks as a Transportation Security Officer(TSO), aka screener
Job requirements for a TSO include:
- Demonstrate physical fitness to work on a daily basis without the aid of medication.
- Work irregular hours and shifts, including holidays and weekends.
- Pass drug and alcohol screening tests.
- Pass background, criminal and credit checks.

Aww, c'mon now. They DO have to pass a "personality test".
I wonder how many fail the "do you think it's OK to steal from your employer as long as you don't get caught" question?
Um.....uh.... I'd like to use a lifeline, Regis.
