How long does an item stay in Chexsystem?

I was placed in their system in 2003.

 

I applied for a checking account with a credit union a few weeks ago and it item came up when they ran my ss# through Chexsystem.

I think my account was closed 12/03, so it may take until the end of the year to fall off on it's on. I should probably try to work on getting it off sooner.

You're usually in ChexSystems 5 years, but there ARE banks willing to work with you within that 5 years to open new checking accounts.

More and more banks are opening accounts for people in ChexSystems--just do a little research and you should be able to find a bank willing to work with you.

Ummm, I am not looking to get another account. I have a checking with a CU that I've been with for over 7 years.

 

I only asked about being in Chexsystems because when I went to the CU(a different one) that my minor child has a savings account with ....to open a checking account for her, I had to be listed on the account. They checked Chexsystems and that's how I found out I had an item listed. I was still able to get the account open for her.

I plan on never checking my Chex. Dont want to know. Ive had bank tell me NO after they ran it, they kinda suckered me into the inquiry. I have one checking, thanks. At least 4 Chex entries, 2 from 2 banks. Good riddance.

 

As long as they never pop up for anything in CA world, im happy. And we are getting closer, no mention but sometimes old things pop up out of nowhere..

I have a CA for an incident that's also on Chex. Not that they've done anything besides sit there on Transunion only, but they're there.

But...if you want some of the good CU credit products this could present a barrier to entry...just food for thought. (i.e. Alliant)
