I purchased two vehicles the same day about a year and half ago

Ok, so I walked into a dealership (to please DH) and I basically walked out with a 2006 car and a 2002 truck. My DH insisted he needed it. Both loans in my name. About a month later DH goes and buys a brand new truck and basically leaves this 2002 truck to sit. He now drives it about 3 times a month. In the last 6 months him and I both have taken on new jobs. I am basically left with nothing after all the bills. I work in the restaurant industry. I feel if I could drop the truck payment (2002) and the insurance on it I would be able to start some savings or pay other debt down. I even had a friend that was willing to rent the truck...but I was not sure if I would be liable in any way. I still owe 9000 on a 2002 truck with 160K miles (I know that is so bad) Any advice? I am not willing to just let it go, and screw up my credit that I have worked so hard for. What was I thinking?

First let me say up front I don't understand the thinking of "his check and her check". I think when you are married there is only one pot - both for money coming in and going out!

 

But if you do live this way why is he not paying for his own 2002 truck that he wanted? If he is not going to pay for it then sell it! I persoanly would have put a sold sign on it the minute that new truck entered the picture.

Yes I know living this way is a problem now...it was not like this years ago. Nothing was separate until I started working and then it became "You take care of it now" I have more than this truck issue and I am fully aware, and I think that is why everyday I feel single..

I second that the dude sounds like an immature loser no offense to you in anyway. This is why the divorce rate is so high in the United States. I don't understand how he can ask you to get a 2002 trucke he supposedly needed then expects you to pay for it. Sounds like he is just using you.

Well, it has been awhile since posting. After further review into my long contract, apparently the large amount is my mistake. Or...overlook rather. Apparently, it was agreed that the amount for the truck would be 6995, yet the paperwork says 7995. I also signed a 12000 mile warranty, pr 1 year warranty for 2000.00. So you see, lesson learned...my kids were upset that day (we were there for almost 5 hours I believe) and it seemed rushed. It is an expensive lesson. I am still paying because it is in my name, and I am technically upside down. I have no real other option until I pay it down. I have never experienced a repo, but I would rather not have wages garnished due to an auction. Thank you for the advice. And yes I have issues with my relationship and it is something I am constantly working on. I have to consider every decision made will ultimately effect my children. Thanks again...

I wouldn't spend 5 hours in a dealership for any reason and certainly not with kids. Dealerships are there to make money off you and if they can overcharge you by getting you frustrated, they know you'll sign anything to just get out the door with the keys.

 

As far as waged being garnished, they can't do that in my state. They can sue you and get a judgement. They can sic all kind of nasty collection agencies on you. But they cannot garnish your wages for a truck.
