No surprise. Disaster is a US only card.

So I shouldn't take my Disco to Angel Witch?

I like the chickens and puppies more than the old guy.

When he talks PayPal, it sounds like he uses PayPal to pay for something online, then chooses PayPal at checkout where he has Discover as one of the payment methods. Well, that helps if you're booking online at a hotel, airline, merchant, etc., that takes PayPal, but that isn't going to make your Discover card work at more places while traveling. If McDonald's doesn't take Discover at a location in Manila, no matter what you do with PayPal, you're still going to need to pay another way if you want to eat a Big Mac.

If he really wants PayPal to be accepted just about everywhere, get a PayPal debit MasterCard for his PayPal account. I think he needs to have a bank account, not just a credit card, associated with the account to make PayPal debit card transactions that exceed the balance in his PayPal account. There's also a PayPal Extras credit card (Synchrony Bank). I keep getting offers to apply for it, but I haven't bothered.

Bringing a normal MasterCard and/or Visa when you travel avoids going through all these hoops in utilizing Discover. Not worth it. I have never brought my Discover when traveling out of the country, as there are a zillion more reliable ways of paying.

so Discovery still sucks.
