Navy League = USAA Full Membership???

Any GP's up to try this out?

 

According from what I read here: http://www.navyleague.org/membership/individual_membership.html

 

It says "Any American citizen interested in sea power or supporting our sea services (US Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marine) is eligible for membership."

 

 

And in the "benefits" section is says: http://www.navyleague.org/corporate/usaa.html

 

That USAA membership is a benefit of Navy League membership.

 

Theres even a special signup link for USAA just for Navy League members: http://www.usaa.com/nlus

 

 

Disclaimer: I have not tried this myself and make no guarantee of its success. Im only posting this here because I know if there's people to GP this, it would definitely be here at CB!

From the looks of it, you stand a better chance of getting into PenFed through the Navy League. As I read further, it mentioned ELIGIBLE members can receive benefits through USAA which I interpreted as "limited" member but I've been wrong in the past. If I'm a GP, it would be for PenFed as I'm looking to get in with them at some point. Good find though.

Yes this is the part that got me thinking that it may not work for "full" membership as well. I wouldve gladly tried but im already a full member :/

Ah, I see. Yes that may be the case but also almost 2.5x times more expensive

True but as I read portions of the site, Navy League does some inspiring work for those who have served. Not saying the others don't.

 

I also have a son who just joined the Marines.

Out of curiosity yesterday I clicked through the NLUS links. It just leads to the regular "join" page that starts asking eligibility questions. I didn't continue because I'm already a partial member, but it looks just like the questions I answers when I joined.

For partial members, probably not. but full Full members, the auto insurance is one of the best around.

I'm not a full member, and I'm not hating on USAA. I'm saying that unless you have full membership they aren't that great. The credit products are really limited for partial members.

Like I said, that's what one CSR said. I didn't challenge it. I have less than $500 in my USAA savings account, so neither closing it nor leaving it there is going to change my lifestyle. It's much easier just to leave it.

Just to make this clear, I started this thread in hopes of finding a way to get you guys "Full Membership". So whether or not "partial" membership is any good is a moot point. Those that are full members can vouch that their auto insurance (which is why most people join) is hands down the best and cheapest.

To be perfectly clear, you will never be a FULL member of USAA unless you fit into this description:

 

to members of the U.S. Military, veterans who have honorably served, and their families.

 

In other words, an Active Duty ID or a DD-214 is going to be asked for (and they have a system in place to check this)... and even then you need to be an E-7 or higher (or Officer) to get the better insurance rates.
