Just an FYI for anyone with Discover cards. Yesterday I went to use my Discover card as usual. It was DECLINED.

I called to find out why only to be told they closed the account because I had a collection on my reports. I told them that was impossible. (I had gotten it deleted from EQ, EX, TU - my reports are 100% clean) He told me they found out about it from some company called Innovis. I had never even heard of them before, but apparently they are a credit reporting agency. They would NOT re-open even though it was not on EQ, EX, TU.

Pretty damn sneaky of them.

This is the 4th credit reporting agency that most people think doesn't matter.

In your case, it does matter.

How long did you have the card?

FIRST EVER REPORTED ADVERSE ACTION FROM Innovis

They are not THE BIG 3

They don't do inquires for credit applications (or didn't in the past)

Some of the people who have seen them said they were all but USELESS for a credit report

REQUEST A FREE COPY AND SEE WHAT IT SAYS

It must be free since you had ADVERSE ACTION

i ordered one a few min ago, just to see what it says.... hope i didn't make a mistake by saying i suspected fraud.... and they will be like the big 3 and add a fraud alert to my CR.

YOU WILL probably END UP WITH A BOGUS FRAUD ALERT ON THE BIG 3

Then you have to go through a bunch of hoops to get rid of it

I got my Innovis report and it was pretty thin, although my mortgage was on there and I believe GEMB and possibly HSBC report. The buzz is that they are becoming more and more relevant, everyone out there would be advised to get their report now and then (you're entitled to a free one under the same conditions you would be with any other CRA) and check it over.

I always assumed that Innovis was like a tri-merge....threrefore only pulling info from the Big 3. From what I am reading that is Not the case?!?! Are we going to have to start treating Innovis like one of the Big 3?

You should already have been treating IDS in teh same manner as the big three.

Well you know what they say about assuming.....my mistake. Thanks Centex, I will be sure to treat them as they should be treated from here on out.

They aren't AS important as the big 3, only because very few creditors seem to consider them, but that seems to be changing. They are subject to the FCRA just as the big 3 are, so they really should be handled in exactly the same ways. I wonder this: has anyone ever successfully disputed something on their Innovis report? I never had the need to myself, as there is nothing derogatory on mine. Should be the same process though, I would think.

As I've stated on previous threads, I have seen mortgage brokers who pull people's credit, and the ONLY report they are holding is Innovis. I think it's because Innovis is far less subject to consumer control the way the big 3 are. I mean really, most of us here have TU, EX, and EQ credit reports that look NOTHING like they would if we hadn't intervened and started working on them.

Who's really done any work on their Innovis report?

Innovis is the report my mortgage broker pulled last year when I was looking into buying a house. She gave me the report and told me to clean up anything I could. When you look at the report it tells you which of the Big 3 the TL is reporting to. That would be why I thought Innovis just pulled TL's from the Big 3....The scary thing is there was A LOT of baddies on there!! Everything reporting to the Big 3 was on my Innovis report. I think I'm gonna get a new report and see what it looks like now since that was over a year ago.

As with many entities, they have their hands in many pies. In addition to serving the mortgage industry through the tri-merge offerings, they also dabbled in the activity of being a bureau. There is a REASON that hege (among others) routinely posted about the need to be aware of far more than just the big three.

I am glad I know this now. The driving factor behind cleaning up my credit is to buy a house. It would have really killed me to have cleaned up the Big 3 and still have a bunch of junk pop up on Innovis when the broker pulled my report.

Since they are a CRA (though it seems they deny it) - why can't we get a free annual report?

Or can we?

I don't want to enrich them by $11, if I can help it.

IDS is a CRA and if you write them requesting a copy of your consumer report as per the FACTA they will send you one.

My IDS report has over 20 tradelines.

I ordered my Innovis report a few months ago. I "suspected fraud" so it was free and no fraud alerts went anywhere, in case anyone was worried about that. Out of like 17 trade lines I have on the big 3 they showed B of A and CIT/Dell. That is it. No Chase, no CHAMU, NO DISCOVER, no collection account, no any of the rest of my 17 trade lines. No inquires, hard, soft, account review or anything. Just B of A and CIT/Dell. That was just a few months back but I am pretty surprised to hear someone getting AA from Discover when in my case Discover was apparently not even reporting to Innovis. I have one Discover open in 1993 and closed in 2003 and another open in 2005 and still open. Neither on Innovis.

(... I'm having a deja vu moment - I think you told me this a while back, and I still haven't done it . )
