I should've known better than to apply for FNBO (wanted the EX08) and, as expected, I was shot down for INQs (multiple in the past 6 months, 4 new accounts). Scored 817 / 900 on their internal scoring but no dice.

The 817/900 is most likely your EX 08 bankcard FICO. If you haved been B*ad they will get you with ARS..

You realize this thread is a year old?

PenFed loves your or hates you, regardless of credit/income qualifications. This is well established.

My FICOs are 800+ with no debt and almost a six figure income. PenFed didn't trust me with a 8k CL.

Well, yeah but a bit of an oversimplification perhaps. Clearly credit/income qualification typically are germane, though not the whole story. It sure does does seem like they 'play favorites' so to speak. IIRC It took them >5 years of payment history to go goo goo over me. All indications they can be amenable over time with good behavior and that may come sooner or later, often later for a 'CW'.

Based on sig, with limits more than 3Xs income, they may've wanted to keep at 8k until more assured not building pyramids. Has often been worth the wait for members. Would rather stick with a lender that may hold in the reigns indefinitely than one that gets twitchy and closes (uninspired) products.

There is nothing wrong with bumping an old thread. It gives perspective. I recently responded to an FNBO pre-Approval & was instantly approved for a $15,000 limit with three INQ's in 2013. So as always YMMV.

7 INQs in 2 years across all 3 bureaus (No B*) was apparently too many for them. *shrug*

Lesson learned to be more careful to not waste INQs in the future w/FNBO.

I have to say they've been pretty good to me - overstock.com rewards are pretty decent (club O membership included, instant $20 for signing up, plus an additional 3% for a total of 8% in club O rewards). Limit started at $2400 in 1/2013 and has steadily risen to $7100 by 3/14 - all auto CLI.

DH just got this preapproval offer in the mail for the FNBO Amex. His EX is clean except for an old tax lien. Util is around 3%, but most of his lines are as an AU on my larger accounts. He only has 2 small limit Cap 1 cards, a $3400 Apple card, and the Buick lease as his own lines. ... wondering if this would be a good route for him. 6 inqs, but all more than 6 months old.
