Your talking about bouncing a check correct? If so not Chex but Certegy and other companies that are similar. Chex is used pretty much for closed accounts and banking history along with some other BS they keep track of. I'm not sure if Certegy shares info with other similar companies or just keeps it within their own company. Different places use different companies for checks, its just a mess.

Refer to my other Chex WTF topic. LMAO!

Saw that..they are a CRA just deal with different things..

The messed up thing is you don't even have to have any bounced checks listed with companies like Certegy to can get declined when using a check at a store for no reason. They use computers to assess risk and will just decline people for really no reason. It's has happened a few times to me for no reason besides risk when using business checks for large business purchase since the debit card is limited and you can only use so much. Total BS.

Hello All,

Do all NSF transactions that happen on a bank account get reported to Certegy and chex systems?

All banks and credit unions are different.. some report to chexsystems, some to EWS, some to Telecheck etc.. some report to more than one

Certegy is primarily point of sale loss prevention. Some banks will report you to Certegy once your account has been in a negative status for a certain period of time. Also, if you've had fraud issues, etc. you may be in their records. Once it is back positive, your risk "profile' with them changes and you should be able to write checks.

I was just wondering. I dont write many checks but a few random bills thst I pay use what one would call and echeck and I have had a couple of those returned. Just wondering if every transaction like that gets reported.

Meaning paying bills online with a checking account number and routing number? If yes then unless they go unpaid they usually won't get reported. Even sending a check in to pay bills won't get you reported, its when you go to stores that use these companies and write a check.

Yep! My husband tried to cash a paycheck at Walmart some years ago, but they wouldn't cash it. They gave him some 800 number to call, at an outside company, to find out why. He never had any checks returned at Walmart (he never wrote any checks at Walmart, ever, and hadn't had a checking account for quite some time prior to that, either). That was also his first time trying to cash a check there. He was working for a well known, large national employer, so it seemed ridiculous to me that they wouldn't cash the paycheck, based on his credit score, or as you said, some computerized risk model.

So, can a consumer get a copy of their Certegy report, then?

According to the CFPB, yes. http://files.consumerfinance.gov/f/201207_cfpb_list_consumer-reporting-agencies.pdf

Having a thread with the Chex like companies and a link may be helpful so people can see what else is out there for reporting agencies. Edited by Brndnh721

I have been told by some that there are banks that literally report every single NSF to chexsystems but for the most part they do not. I have never heard of this happening with Certegy. Some banks also report to EWS and Telecheck
