I sent the first Pre-Hippa dispute letter (per the guidelines) to EQ, which is the only CRA reporting the collection, they sent back a letter saying the account # is no longer on my file. After looking at the letter and using the backdoor it turns out they used the number from certified mail tracking slip instead of the actual account number.

 

I typed the letter verbatim (with my info of course) and this is where they go the number from, assuming...

 

"I am sending this dispute certified mail # xxxx to make sure you receive it"

 

 

They should have used the info from this line

"I have no knowledge or records of the following account(s) on my report # xxxxx. # xxxxx from xxxxxx"

 

Not sure how to proceed now?? WhyChat your expertise is greatly needed and appreciated!!!

Try calling them and getting through to a supervisor, if that doesn't work file a complaint with the FTC and the CFPB

and send them a copy with a cover letter as per the instructions. Make SURE you list EXACTLY the nature of your complaint, ie "I properly disputed account # xxxxx from (name of CA) for an unknown medical account on my report # xxxxxx on x/xx/2013. Their response indicated that they used the certified mail tracking # to research the account instead of the clearly described account # identification and responded that the account was not on my report. I called them on x/xx/2013 and spoke to ( name of agent or supervisor) to attempt to get them to correct their error, ( provide details of the outcome of the call)

I received an email from CFPB, has the generic message that they sent my complain to Eq. Not sure what to make of this when I logged in to check the status it says.

*Equifax reviewed it's records. *Equifax did not receive any additional communications from the consumer during the review of the complaint. *Reinvestigation results will be provided within 30 days.

***UPDATE - I checked my report via USAA it looks like the collection was finally deleted. I will wait the fews days I have left to see if I get something from EQ before calling for an updated EQ report.
