Applied yesterday online after i finished with penfed., got the approval for $2k. called and started bragging about other cards and limits. the rep asked a series of questions and then straight up denied me for any limit increase and said the discover card you have is pretty new and why do i need so much credit. i'll settle for 2k for now i guess

thanks,

did you call the magic number? the analysts I spoken to have always been straight shooters, even a little too honest (do you know you have XXX in available credit?). congrats on the approval. which product?

I don't necessarily think the rep being cautious and keeping you within Barclay's comfort zone makes him/her a low life..... Just my 2 cents.

Give it six months of use and ask for a CLI.

@matti

I just didn't like the way he denied me, that's all.. I will try in 6 months for sure

well getting your foot in the door is great.

instead of a CLI, in 6 months you could apply for a co-branded card that offers rewards you can benefit from and them combine the limits if approved.

Congrats. But I must say that calling a rep a low life because a credit increase did not happen is a bit childish. Secondly, HEY enjoy the limit. whats the need to have more than 2k on the card. That's a sizeable limit. I have had nothing but great experience with RECON reps at Barclays. VERY HELPFUL CHAPS

The analyst is just being cautious. For the same reason your FICO is punished by inquiries & new accounts (= credit seeking behavior), the analysts are curious as to why you may be suddenly needing access to so much credit. Suddenly un(der)employed? Piling up medical bills? Think about it.
