I opened an account with Suntrust and after declining to apply for any credit cards, I had an inquiry show up on my EQ report. Just called the bank and was told they aren't sure if it can be taken off (this was not the branch manager who will be calling me back). This can't be true, can it? I really don't want any inquiries on my report that I've not permitted right now. Advice?

The bank can recode it as a soft. Nordstrom did that for me after they did a hard pull. They simply contacted the CRA and had it recoded. It can be done.

they have PP since you applied for a new account.

I was told that reports would only be pulled for CC apps. this is why I'm a little confused.

Soooooooooo...basically the lady at the branch also doesn't know what's what.

I was told that the bank uses telechech and decision power, yet there is an inquiry (hard) on my EQ file. She's saying that DP and EQ are linked...I'm not sure I believe that. I will call DP and ask whatever questions, but I'm thinking I may need to take care of this with the bank and let that be my last resort. Direction suggestions, anyone?

Read all the disclosures that you had to sign and agree to before opening the account. I bet there is something in their giving them permission to pull your credit. What a person says doesn't override what's in those agreements.

I know one thing. It just isn't sounding right, and I'm gonna dig and dig and dig until someone can tell me exactly why and what WITHOUT studdering. I haven't gotten that yet, so I'm inclined to think ppl are just wanting me to drop the issue b/c they honestly don't know how to answer it.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least to hear that bank employees have no real grasp of what their truth-in-savings disclosures contain, and what kind of back-end processing is done when a new account is opened. Their job is to get you to open the account and put your money in it, they're not lawyers.

Please let us know what it says in the truth-in-savings and other disclosures you were given when you opened the account about checking your credit.
