Bought a book today, used my MC for the first time in 4 weeks. Nice lady swiped my card. And to my dismay didn't ask for anything! Asked if I wanted the receipt in the bag? Thought for a microsecond for a smart alect answer cause for a pecosecond couldn't imagine where else it could go. Then realized gals with purses might rather have it there.

So in the last thirty days I have not ever been asked for ID with my only charge/credit card.

My purchases are in compliance with MC/Visa policy.

Just thought I'd share

Barnes and Noble near me is very good with policy.

 

They have no minimum, no fee, and never ask for ID.

 

See, they have a self-swipe for debit/credit cards. So, the card never leaves my hand. Easy purchases, and its faster too.

Update Update,

 

Went online to pay for the book I charged over the weekend. Paid the 45 plus added 50 to pay down the balance a little more. This morning I check to see where the credit was and .... a CLI of $200.00. Wow and I am not even half done with the book.

Can't wait to buy the sequel.

Does it really matter if some fool at Citibank knows you spend $130.31 at Wal-Mart or some guy at Bank of America sees you spent 99 cents on a soda at a convenience store on March 13th, 2005? Big deal...

 

Heck, they don't really care if they see you spent $29.99 for a subscription to porno and AmEx probably won't mind if your Playboy billed to your card...

 

The credit card companies don't care what you buy ... as long as the bill is paid on time.

 

Now... if you';re doing illegal stuff, then there's a record that could be used against you...

lol, oh just free baby wash, $3 packs of diapers, tampons, free bodywash/shampoo/conditioner..etc. I use those rebates they give in the EasySaver booklet! lol

 

What do YOU buy at Walgreens????

 

 

 

 

 

 

Oh wait, should I tell ya about all the sudafed I buy and peddle on the blackmarket? j/k :D:glare:

I'm with AjanJ's thinking on this. It's not that you have something to hide - it's that the information can be used against you at some point in time. Who could have imagined ten years ago that your Victoria's Secret credit card payment history could be used to determine insurance premiums?

 

The exact same statistical procedures used to create credit scores can be used with info about where you shop, when you shop, and what you buy for the exact same purpose. Would you want to be turned down for insurance because you seem to spend too much time at Walgreens? Never mind that your wife or girlfriend works there and you grab a Coke everytime you drop her off/pick her up - they think you have some kind of health problem. What to get denied for a credit card because you shop at Albertsons in the wrong neighborhood? Never mind that your a cop and that is where you patrol.

 

Worse, they could use this data to set homeowners and auto insurance premiums.

And think about what the marketers would do if they could routinely get their hands on this type of information.

 

This ins't farfetched - the data simply isn't readily available from a single source at this time.

damn then they are going to find out about my space shuttle activities.. and the fact that I jump out of perfectly working airplanes, not to mention that I scuba. and I like to go to Thailand to go wake boarding. So much for my life insurance policy
