I had a Chase card that was charged off during my last deployment. My fault completely. I got back, and took a settlement on it for around 45% of the balance. I paid around $2100 on the settlement. Well, after reading on here, I sent them a GW explaining what happened. They actually wrote me back, and had me send in proof I was(am) in the military. I called today, and they told me the charge off was completely reversed. I now have a $1900 balance on it, with $1500 available credit. This was charged off in Aug of 2008, and settled in July of this year. They said in the letter that all fees for going over, late payment fees would be reversed because Chase is here to serve our military. On the phone with them now, trying to figure out how to get me a new card. CSR says account is open. This will do wonders for my credit, since it is my only baddie, besides a few late payments. I was 564 EQ fico 2 weeks ago, so I will let you know how much the score jumps once this starts reporting.

If there are any military members in the same situation as me with Chase, I suggest you send a GW. Worked wonders for me.

Just got off phone with Csr manager. Account has been reaged, is in a positive status, all lates have been removed, all late fees reversed and credited to account. Guy can't order a new card today, since the other one expired a while ago. He seems to think that the system is overloaded with new info, and can't order a new card yet. I am keeping everything crossed that tomorrow they will be able to send me a new one.

It's Karma!!

Thanks for serving our country!!

You are welcome!! But no thanks needed. I am stationed in Hawaii now. That is thanks enough.

You are right.. No fair! :(

I was a military brat... And after 13 years, only ever lived in Germany and Ft. Knox, KY.

Now my brother (Army) has seen some very lovely deserts... You know Saudi, Iraq, Afghanistan.... Oh, and he once went to Columbia.

Eh, no worries. I have an ING account set up for "Hawaii 2014."

I've caught parts of WWII in HD.

Can only handle a little bit at a time, ON TV!

I have been Tivo'ing it all week. Awesome show. First episode was great. Gonna take me a while to watch the rest of them.

Congrats! I have to say that lately I've had some very good luck with Chase as well. They removed two negatives from my report recently. They were extremely nice about it. I don't know if it made a difference that I've been a longtime Chase customer and have my mortgage with them, but I'm pretty happy with them right now.

They didn't really do you any favor. It's the law. Sample web site

Know your rights.

Yes, they did me a HUGE favor. The SCRA applies only to debt incurred BEFORE active duty. Since I joined in 2000, and the CC account was opened in 2007, it did not apply to me at all. No one is stopping a creditor from applying these same rights to any service member. Since most of my creditors have been NFCU and USAA, I think they might laugh at me if I get a loan from them and then ask for 6% interest because I am in the military. Chase did me a huge huge huge favor by fixing this. It could of sat on my credit report until 2014. Chase <3's the military. Thanks for everyone's help, and for all the thanks for serving. None needed. Anyone want to take a shot at what my FICO might jump once this CC reports positive. I had this charge off, and a few lates. 564 now. Really curious what it is going to be.

Nice, but why isn't the balance 0?

Was the 45% settlement not settlement in full?

Yes, after settlement it was settled in full. I asked them if they could reopen the account, reverse the charge off, and apply the payments ($2200) I had already paid to settle. It was my understanding that once an account is settled and paid, that was it. The reversed it all. So, I guess I won't be getting a 1099 at the end of the year.

Thank you for your service to our country. Congrats on getting the negative reversed. I agree you need to post this in the new military forum so other service people can be aware of this in case they fall into the same boat.

Just got off phone with Chase CSR. New card is in the mail. I had to ask him 5 times. "are you sure, are you sure". They also set the APR at 6%. WOW, just wow. Thanks everyone.

It is actually better than I thought it was. My balance has updated because of all of the credits they applied. Listening to the automated message, "Balance $390, Available $3200!! You received a finance charge reversal of $850, late payment fee reversal of $350, over the limit fee reversal of 120, returned item fee reversal of 100 ..etc". I went from charged off, to positive TL in 24 hours. Still in shock.
